Reading Wrap Up Jan-March 2021

Okay, so I haven’t had a wrap up of what I’ve read so far. That makes sense for a couple different reasons. First, I wasn’t blogging regularly the first few months of the year. Secondly, I actually haven’t read that much overall, so trying to do a wrap-up post would have been pretty short.

So, that’s what I’m doing today, talking about the books I read in the months of January, February, and March.

Okay, so I started my year off pretty great. My first read of the year was one I flew through…it only took me a day to finish, and then I jumped into the second book of the series, and for some reason I just kept slumping. Like, I was enjoying the story, but as I sat down to read, I constantly felt my attention being drawn elsewhere. It took a couple weeks to get through the book. Of course the other book I picked up at that time was also one that I was reading slowly, despite enjoying it.

It felt like I was slumping, and then I picked up a book that sounded like something I would really enjoy…and instead it was like pulling teeth; I had to force myself to keep reading. Ultimately I DNFd the book at 50%.

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn — 4 stars

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn — 4 stars

The Cleveland Heights LGBTQ Sci-Fi and Fantasy Role Playing Club by Doug Henderson — DNF

You Have a Match by Emma Lord — 4 stars

I picked up another similar book, another ARC, hoping for better, and it was…but it still wasn’t hitting the spot.

Then, thanks to events happening to my character in our Dungeons & Dragons campaign, I felt like I absolutely needed to pick up some vampire reads, which led me to start a re-read of the Vampire Academy series since it has been quite some time since I last read them. I actually ended up flying through the first three of the series pretty quickly.

After that I jumped over to another ARC, this one for a gothic fantasy that sounded really interesting…and I flew through that one as well. I thought I was getting through my reading slump, and that excited me.

Down With this Ship by Katie Kingman — 3.5 stars

Frostbite by Richelle Mead — 5 stars

Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft — 5 stars

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead — 5 stars

I picked up another fantasy that I was excited about and enjoyed it as well, and I also picked up an ARC for the sophomore novel of an author whose first book I really liked, and this ARC didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

Now we’re in April, and honestly I don’t know if I have much of a wrap-up for April either…but there’s a readathon this weekend, so maybe I’ll get lucky.

Better Together by Christine Riccio — 3 stars

Anyway, I need to get reviews up for The Cleveland Heights LGBTQ Sci-Fi and Fantasy Role Playing Club, You Have a Match, Down With the Ship, Down Comes the Night, Hall of Smoke, and Better Together, because they are all NetGalley reads I’ve finished, so I guess look for those reviews coming sometime fairly soon.
