It’s about time we got around to updating and refreshing this site, as we make all sorts of changes to our lives and hobbies and interests and goals.
Currently Free State of Geek is a husband and wife duo, but we’re open to adding more folks to our group. We are huge geeks who enjoy all sorts of geeky hobbies: board games, TTRPGs, video games, reading (books, comics, manga, audiobooks), watching TV and movies, video games, 3D printing, cosplay, travel, photography, and more.

About Sam
My name is Sam (pronouns she/her), and I am a reader, a blogger, an author and a game master. I was lucky enough to meet my husband through Dungeons & Dragons and we have built our relationship on a solid foundation of shared geeky interests.
I was born and raised in Ohio but packed up and moved to Iowa in 2022. While the weather and scenery are pretty darn similar, the vibe and availability of geeky hangout spots has diminished. We’re hoping to create our own geek haven here along the Mississippi River.
What do you want to know about me? I have two cats. Bookstores and libraries are my happy places, which is why I have worked most of my life on building up a very nice personal library. I mostly read Fantasy, although I will pick up sci-fi, contemporary, romance, historical, or whatever so long as the story sounds interesting to me. I’ve been getting more into anime the past couple years, and I’ve been a fan of superheroes and comic books since I was a kid.
Most of my content on here will be about writing and creativity, book and manga reviews, board game and TTRPG reviews, and maybe the occasional personal interest piece.
