August 2026 TBR

Hey all, Sam here.

It’s somehow the end of July already, and Gen Con is just a couple of days away. Oh, I should go ahead and say that my July wrap-up post won’t be up until I’ve had a couple of days to recover from the con. I know most of the time I try to get those wrap-ups done on like the 2nd or 3rd of the following month, but I won’t have a free day until at least the 5th of August to get the post finalized and published for y’all.

What I will say is that I did only do okay at keeping up with my TBR in July. Honestly, I didn’t read as many books as I would have liked in July. Things felt a bit busier, and I was a little reading slumpy after an incredible reading month in June. But I still did manage to read some books I was really looking forward to.

That being said, there’s a few books coming out in August that I’m excited for, and a couple of them I’ve even been approved for via NetGalley, so I’m going to talk about those books first before moving in to the rest of my TBR, which is kind of a chaotic and sloppy mess. Let’s just say that my reading mood hasn’t figured out what it wants to read right now.

All right, let’s get started.

The Dungeon Book by Gareth Hanrahan (Aug 11), I Punched an Alien and Now We’re in Couples Therapy by Kimberly Lemming (Aug 18), Homeward for a Spell by Jamie Pacton and Rebecca Podos (Aug 18), Heir of Prophecy by Analeigh Sbrana (Aug 25)

As for the rest of my TBR….well, I don’t exactly know what I want to read right now. I’m not completely in a reading slump, not yet, but I can’t figure out what kind of mood I’m in. I do know that I really should work more on catching up on some of my NetGalley reads, so that’s probably my focus. I really need to do more reading and then reviewing.

So…here’s just some of my options:

Smoke and Star by Gretchen Powell Fox, Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett, Aicha by Soraya Bouazzaoui, Gods & Comics by Kat Cho, Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore by Emily Krempholtz, The Road of Bones by Demi Winters, The Faerie Morgana by Louisa Morgan, Voidwalker by S.A. Maclean, The Chosen Queen by Sam Davey, Brighter Than Scale, Swifter Than Flame by Neon Yang, The Gentleman and His Vowsmith by Rebecca Ide, The Witch Who Trades With Death by C.M. Alongi.

Of course, these are just some of the NetGalley reads I’m overdue on reading and reviewing. I really need to buckle down and work on improving my review percentage. I literally could spend the next year only reading and reviewing NetGalley reads and still not be fully caught up. I would like to focus on catching up on these titles over the next few months…because I do want to read them and they do still sound so interesting to me (many of them I’ve already bought the finished copies of), but also because I know there’s some titles coming out next spring, and I’d like to improve my odds of getting approved for those.

But I’ve been such a mood reader the past couple of years, and it has been so frustrating to not be able to keep up with my proposed TBRs. Honestly I also ended up greatly reducing my number of books read each year as well. I had gotten up to 200-250ish books read every year, but now I’m back down to more like 100-150ish books a year. That’s still an incredible amount of books read. Don’t get me wrong; I’m still quite happy with what I’m reading. I just miss when I was able to read even more than I do now. It was nice.

Oh, and I have no idea what books I might pick up at Gen Con, so who knows, one or two of those might just jump the line and end up in my August Wrap-Up. We’ll see what happens.

All right, well that is all from me for today. Thank you so much for stopping by. What books are you hoping to read in August? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
