Hey all, Dani here.
Because I was so lax about blogging the first few months of the year, I didn’t get to share my book hauls or OwlCrate unboxings. Now, I was still taking pictures of my book purchases and subscription box goodies though, and they were just sitting on my phone and then getting updated to my WordPress media library…and then they just sat there.
So this week I’m going to catch up on sharing all of my new bookish goodies, starting today with January.
So, it was a pretty big book haul for January. Obviously there were a lot of new releases in late December and into January that I had to pick up, and then about half of the manga purchases were technically made by Damian, but I still include them in my overall haul.
And honestly I’ve only read like two or three of the books hauled here…so I should probably try to get reviews up for those soon. I need to go through my NetGalley shelf as well, and see what books I have read and need to review, and what books I need to read so I can review them.
But I have mostly a bunch of fantasy books this time around, with only a couple that have a more contemporary setting. I’ve read The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry, Hall of Smoke, and The Girl from the Other Side Vol 9, and that’s about it. I’ve been looking forward to reading so many of these books…and just haven’t picked them up.
I’ll be honest: I’ve been in a little bit of a reading slump so far in 2021. I’m hoping it gets better. I should probably do a 2021 so far wrap up to talk about the books I have managed to read.
Now for the OwlCrate unboxing.
The January theme was: From Olympus with Love.
Having read the description sneak peek of the book in the December box, I easily figured out that the book would be Lore by Alexandra Bracken. Thankfully that was one of my anticipated releases, which I always enjoy. About 95% of the time the book selected for OwlCrate is one that I already have on my to-buy list. Then it’s 4% books I didn’t know about before but now realize I want to read, and then 1% books that I’m not super interested in…but usually know someone who would like it so I gift it forward.
It’s nice to have a new pin banner for my monthly bookish pins from these boxes. I ended up giving the Hermes message board and the lunar calendar to Damian. My only really big nitpick about the message board is that it was very time consuming to separate all the letters and numbers. I only needed ten of them for this photo set and I think it took me like 5 minutes to get them out.
Overall though, I think it’s a pretty cool box.
Okay, that is it for today. I’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
