So today’s post is a little bit early, but there’s a great reason why…I have another post coming later, because I was invited to be part of a cover reveal. That post will be up at my normal post time. But I didn’t want to skip another Manga review post on a Monday. I’ve already thought about double posting on Calendar Girls Mondays so I can perhaps try and catch up on all the manga backlist reviews I have written down. I figured none of you would mind having a bonus post for the day, so let’s just go ahead and get started.
Summary
Midoriya inherits the superpower of the world’s greatest hero, but greatness won’t come easy.
What would the world be like if 80 percent of the population manifested superpowers called “Quirks”? Heroes and villains would be battling it out everywhere! Being a hero would mean learning to use your power, but where would you go to study? The Hero Academy of course! But what would you do if you were one of the 20 percent who were born Quirkless?
Midoriya is in the fight of his life—an all-out battle with Overhaul, who has unleashed his terrifying power. Midoriya is matching it with his own power, pushing One For All to 100 percent. Only by relying on Eri’s restoration Quirk can he hope to take down Overhaul. If Midoriya manages to walk away from this fight, his life will never be the same again…
My Thoughts

I read this as part of the April 2019 session of Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon. After the tension and action and consequences of Volume 17, I was expecting this to be an explosive continuation picking up right where we left off.
It did pick up right where the last volume ended, but I wasn’t as affected by some of the events as Damian was. Something happened to one of the characters in Volume 17 and it made me tear up a bit, but what happened to a different character in this one got my lovely fiance a bit emotional.
I have to say that I love the hope and determination that these heroes-in-training have, especially when it comes to characters like Midoriya and Mirio.
Life will never be the same for many of those who were part of this raid and rescue. In fact, it feels like the whole future and reality of those with Quirks has been altered by everything that has happened in the last couple of volumes.
A lot of heavy stuff has gone on, and the fact that so many of these students still want to keep fighting and training and learning so that they can be heroes is admirable and inspirational. It doesn’t matter how they get knocked down. They stand back up and keep going. Perhaps that is a mentality more of us should adopt. It is so much easier to just give up and walk away, even if it is something you’ve been dreaming of doing. But maybe we should be more like Deku or more like Lemillion. Stand back up and continue working for your dreams. With hard work and determination (and maybe a little luck) we can achieve our goals.
I’m looking forward to the next volume. I wonder what the next big story arc will be.
