WIP Wednesday – March 29

Hey all, Sam and David here.

Welcome back, everyone! I can’t believe that it’s Wednesday already again. My mom is coming to visit in one more week, and there’s still a lot to do around the house. We’re trying to consolidate some of those boxes that we still haven’t managed to get unpacked, and to get things cleaned and organized so the house is a bit more settled into and feels more homey.

I’m thinking we might finally need to start seriously considering getting ourselves proper living room furniture. When we bought the house, there was a two-seater floral loveseat in the living room, and it has worked fine so far, but it doesn’t give us a lot of seating options for hanging out in the room, so we’ve pulled in some chairs from the dining room. But I’ve been wanting a couch with a chaise lounge attached to it for a long time now, and so far we’ve held off because we were pretty determined to get our furniture from IKEA…which is 3 hours away, and because of the size of a proper couch, would require us to rent a truck or something for hauling.

So…maybe it’s time we look at one of the local furniture stores, a lot of which actually have delivery options. Perhaps we’ll do that tomorrow while David’s off work

Anyway, to the topic at hand. It’s Wednesday, and that means it is time for our weekly check in, our WIP Wednesday post, which goes over everything we’ve read and watched and played and done over the past week. Feel free to share what you’ve been up to in the comments, because we’d love to chat.

Sam

I’d say it’s been a pretty eventful week. Obviously a few days were spent worried about Luna, but when she finally came home on Friday, it was a lot easier to simply relax and focus on other things. So, I think I actually managed to accomplish a lot. Let’s discuss it.

Reading: Animorphs: The Invasion: The Graphic Novel by K.A. Applegate, Michael Grant, and Chris Grine, Animorphs: The Visitor: The Graphic Novel by K.A. Applegate, Michael Grant, and Chris Grine, Animorphs: The Encounter: The Graphic Novel by K.A. Applegate, Michael Grant, and Chris Grine, The Seven Deadly Sins Volume 5 by Nakaba Suzuki, Pagan Portals: The Morrigan: Meeting the Great Queens by Morgan Daimler, Pagan Portals: Raven Goddess: Going Deeper with the Morrigan by Morgan Daimler

I’m now up to 33 books read for the year, which is actually like 10 books ahead of schedule. That feels pretty great (and doesn’t yet include all of the books that I’m mostly finished with and should be completing soon). But see, here’s the thing, after reading the first three Animorphs books (in graphic novel format), I now want to read through the rest of the series…and if I just decide to do that right now, to basically binge my way through them…I’m definitely going to have to increase my reading goal. See, there’s 54 books in the main series, plus 8 related books (such as the Megamorphs, and then there’s The Andalite Chronicles, The Hork-Bajir Chronicles, The Ellimist Chronicles, and Visser.

So if I read through the whole series, I think I would pretty much reach my goal of 100 books for the year, and that means I’d have to increase my goal. After having lower reading numbers the last couple of years, it would be pretty great to have this really cool recovery year. But I also feel like I wouldn’t be able to just sit down and do a weekend binge of the whole series, because I should at least take a couple minutes between each book and jot down notes. I would like to review the whole series. These books meant so much to my childhood. It would be nice to revisit them.

What do you guys think? Would any of you be interested in my thoughts and feelings during an Animorphs re-read?

Watching: Let’s see, in the hotel we had various episodes of “Bones” playing one night, and then “John Wick,” “John Wick 2,” and “John Wick 3” on in the background another night, but I only partly paid attention because I was focused on other things. What I did pay attention to made the series seem pretty interesting, so I’ll probably try to properly watch it at some point. Our friend Sarah also put on some hockey and then a wrestling show she got into because of some of her other friends. Again, I only partly paid attention, so I don’t know that it can be counted as watching, really.

Since coming home, I’ve watched some more of “Agents of SHIELD” Season 3, and then thanks to the hotel, I’ve watched almost all of the first season of “Bones.” It was a show I watched quite a bit week by week while it was airing, and I don’t know, sometimes I enjoy a good procedural show. Stuff like “Bones” or any of the “NCIS” shows are ones that I can easily have on as background noise while I work on other things, because I can still mostly follow the plot and story even when only partly paying attention. And that isn’t me saying that they’re predictable or formulaic or boring or anything like that, although there is a certain amount of predictability and formula they follow. They’re kinda like soap operas: enjoyable and entertaining, but you can miss a few episodes or whatever and still be able to keep up with everything that’s going on.

Writing: I was supposed to take my printed out manuscript with me to the convention over the weekend, but because I was upset and worried about Luna, I ended up packing in a hurry and I missed a few things. I did take the various notebooks I had scribbled in over the years, so I was able to read through all of that and think about the Project Death series a bit more. I think I can make this happen, keep up with timeline and goals I have in mind. Honestly I need to start figuring out what I’m going to do for covers, because I want something better than the ones I created a decade ago.

In other news, I spent some time working on the March prompt for Weekend Writer, since this Friday’s post will be time to share some of our writing…and honestly the prompt I ended up choosing fell right in with the bare bones of a story idea I’ve had bouncing around in my head recently. So I just started writing…and I’ll be sharing some of that on Friday, so I don’t want to talk about it too much here. I don’t think this (so far untitled) story is one that I’ll be fully focusing on right now—I want to work on revising and editing and writing the Project Death books, and also try to get the first draft of Tale of Blood and Mourning finished, but this is definitely a project that I want to have as a side project for if/when I need a little bit of a break from my current projects.

Instead of pausing in my writing completely, I’ll just shift to a different story and keep writing and creating and working. I don’t want to lose my creative momentum.

Also, Camp NaNoWriMo starts this weekend, and I definitely hope to accomplish some writing in April, so we’ll see what happens. I’ll definitely be doing these weekly check ins with actual word counts during Camp NaNo in April and June, and NaNo in November.

Other: Well…..I haven’t really been doing any gaming in the past week. I guess that happens when we spent so much time on the road, and being focused on convention things. I took my Nintendo Switch with me when we went to Ohio, and ended up not even opening the case. I’ll probably try to play something in the next week or so. We have a friend coming over Friday evening, and he really enjoys video games, so I might end up playing something with him…possibly Tiny Tina’s Wonderland or Stardew Valley. I’m still thinking about that game Sun Haven, which is like Stardew Valley but with even more fantasy thrown in. I don’t think I’ll be able to wait for it to come to Switch; I might have to buy it on Steam for PC, so I can play it a bit.

David

Okay so I’ve made a bit of progress on things and after a weekend full of convention I am ready to buckle down on some of the nerd craft stuff again.

Printing: So i have been nonstop painting the tokens we have made based on use for DnD 5th Edition. I think with the positive feedback we got in them at FanExpo I may consider investing in a 3d printer that can print multiple colors at once.

Progress has also been made with the Goblin Slayer cosplay. I printed the gorget piece of the armor but it was actually a bit too small to fit my head. I am going to have to either print it again bigger or try to use some heat gun manipulation. Overall i think it might be best to eventually purchase a larger printer for bigger pieces like this.

Painting: So since I have been painting the tokens for now it’s got me painting some of my miniatures as well. I started back up on the small group of Ultramarines I had purchased a while ago.

I am hoping to have them finished soon as I had planned to sell them when I was done. Hopefully the painting it these will get me back into the mood to paint the rest of the Oathsworn miniatures I already had started on.

Anime: So I have started back up on a few anime while I wait for new episodes of Grace of the Gods and Bofuri.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures is one that I was a little iffy on giving a try after having read the first volume of the manga but I like watching everything happening and I have managed to reach the Stardust Crusaders season. Gotta love Matt Mercer’s voice as Jotaro.

I also have started watching Katekyo Hitman Reborn again. I know that the anime did not finish but I am pretty sure the manga did and either way I want to finish the story as I feel it’s an underrated anime/Manga.

Other than that not much has gone on the gaming side of things this last week. I am painting a custom design on this old PSP I purchased, but I don’t know what I want to put on it. If any of you have any ideas let me know and I will try to keep everyone posted on the progress I make on that front as well.

Back to work for me guys, have fun and stay nerdy!

Well, that is all from us for today. Thank you so much for stopping by, and we’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
