WIP Wednesday – March 15

Hey all, Sam and David here.

Oh wow. This time next week we’ll be on our way back to Ohio for a few days. We’ve agreed to help our friend Sarah at Mousai Crafts out with her Artist’s Alley table at Fan Expo Cleveland. It’s like a 10 hour drive each way to do it, but it’ll mean spending a few days with a good friend, which is awesome.

What it also means is that we need to work a bit ahead with the blog, because I would much rather have the Thursday-Sunday posts already drafted and scheduled before we leave. The good news is that the books covered in those review posts are ones that are in progress, so they won’t take as long as books that haven’t even been started yet.

Also, has the time change really messed up anyone else? I feel like I’ve been off-kilter ever since we changed the clocks one hour forward. Normally it doesn’t hit me this hard. I don’t know. 2023 has been a pretty weird year so far.

Anyway, welcome back to WIP Wednesday, where we sit down and tell you all about what we’ve been up to in the past week, whether that’s reading, writing, playing games, crafting, or whatever else. Feel free to share what you’ve been up to in the comments, because we’d love to hear all about it. And…I guess let’s go ahead and get started.

Sam

Reading: Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Breaking Time by Sasha Alsberg, and The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah

I already have my review up for Breaking Time and the review for The Stardust Thief is coming soon. I don’t know if I’m going to review the Laura Ingalls Wilder books individually or as a set. I’m kinda thinking to write up mini reviews in a draft post until I finish the series, and then release the series review post around the same time that I do a field trip post about visiting Wilder’s final home on the Rocky Ridge, since that’s only 5 hours away.

Watching: “Gilmore Girls” Season 6 and Season 7 (in progress), “Lost Girl” Season 4 and Season 5 (in progress), “The Lost City,” “Galaxy Quest”

Yes, the show re-watches continue, but as you can see, I’m nearing the end for a couple of the shows, so I’ll have to find something else to put on while I work on other things. And we sat down together and watched a couple of movies, and it was rather nice.

Writing: So, it’s funny. I read over some of my writing from my shelved series from years ago, and it struck me…I’m good. Sure, some of the writing can be improved with a little more editing, but in general, I’m not a bad writer. And I think I need to do better about reminding myself of that fact every once in a while.

Should I be doing just general vibe updates here, like a vague idea of how I’m doing and feeling with writing, or would you want something more clear, like talking about how many words I’ve written on certain projects?

Right now I’m trying to read through my old Project Death series, so I can do another edit and rewrite pass through the first book and then finally write the last few chapters of the second books’s draft. This has involved finding the digital copy of the books, formatting them into double-spaced paragraphs, and printing out every last bit of it so I can read and make commentary as I go. It’s the easiest way for me to edit, and I usually do it in a variety of different colored pens, which is kind of fun.

I’m also still trying to make time to work on Tale of Blood and Mourning on 4thewords. So yes, I’m juggling two different projects in completely different phases of the writing process. I’m only a few chapters into the very rough draft with ToBaM, so it’s basically just about tossing words at the page and seeing what sticks, which is a very different mindset from Project Death, which is parsing through things and seeing where clarification or expansion is needed.

I don’t know. It’s kind of fun to be back in the creative groove again. We’ll see what happens with all of it.

Other: We had a gaming and hangout day with our friends, and we played “Monopoly” on the Nintendo Switch and then played some Jackbox games and then we played “Life2” on Switch as well. It was pretty fun to just hang out and play some casual digital games. And then I’ve played some more “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” but I don’t spend a lot of time playing it, and I do put it away for a few days in between play times. And I still like to open up my farm on “Stardew Valley” because there’s just something about games like this and “Potion Permit” that just work for me. Sure there’s some combat, but it’s not as gritty or hazardous as games like “Witcher 3” or “Skyrim” and I just really enjoy them.

Which is why I’m intrigued by this game “Sun Haven.” It’s like Stardew but with even more fantasy. You have a handful of different races you can choose from for your character, as well as a variety of backgrounds, and it seems like your skill trees have more options on them too. Oh, and you can play up to 8 players online, which is pretty cool. Right now it’s just available on Steam, so I’m debating about if I want to pick it up yet. Supposedly it might be coming to Switch if Nintendo approves it. But I guess I could still get it when it does come out on Switch, even if I already got it for my PC. I’ve purchased other games that I like in multiple formats.

David

Gaming: So my big thing was finally trying out the console edition of Catan. Longest road is the best go to no doubt. Played a couple of games to practice and soon I will try my skills at playing against non AI players.

Printing: Finishing up some more if the DND themed token coins and we are going to see how those go during actual use.

Did get to start printing my Goblin Slayer cosplay armor. I don’t know exactly how long it will take me to finish it but hopefully I will have enough done to be willing to post progress photos.

Anime: Caught myself back up on “By the Grace of the Gods”, which is still one of the most wholesome anime that I have come across. Started watching an anime called “Handyman Saito From Another World” not sure what i think of it after the first two episodes but I will continue it and try to give a somewhat proper review when we do our WIP Wednesday stuff next week. So stay tuned guys and have wonderful days filled with nerdy stuff and geeky peoples.

All right, well that is all from us for today. What have you been up to the past week? Let us know in the comments! Thank you so much for stopping by and we’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
