Tabletop Tuesday: Zombie Dice

Hey all, Sam and David here today.

We’re back to talk about tabletop games again…because it’s Tabletop Tuesday. If you’re new here, every Tuesday we like to talk about something dealing with tabletop gaming…whether that is a board game, card game, dice game, or some sort of TTRPG or TTRPG accessory. Honestly, it’s a pretty fun time.

Today we’re gonna be talking about a quick to learn, fast to play dice game. And it might be a slightly shorter post than normal, because the game doesn’t really need any in-depth discussion. Okay, let’s get started.

  • Self contained game, carry the dice in the cup
  • 2+ players
  • 15 20 minutes to play
  • 10 and up
  • Zombie Apocalypse Theme

The only thing the basic game doesn’t include that you will want for this game is some way to keep track of score. You can do simple paper and pencil, use tokens or something, or I guess if you have spindown dice for Magic the Gathering that would work too. When we play, I (Sam) pull out the scorecard from the game “Say Anything” because using a dry erase board and marker seems the easiest for me, and it is easy to use over and over.

I (David) just want to say that this is such an easy game to learn and you can go over all the directions and rules and start playing in just a couple of minutes. It’s kind of like playing games like Farkle or Yahtzee.

And you can play it with any number of people really, so long as it is two or more. No max, but it will make the rounds take longer the more people you have, so be warned.

When it’s your turn you reach into the dice cup and grab 3 dice at random and then roll them. The goal is for the die result to be a brain. Other results include feet, which means the human is running away, or the explosion, which is you the zombie getting blasted by a shotgun. After you roll the dice, you look at your results and you can either cash out and count up the brains you received, or you can press your luck and roll again.

If you roll again, you set aside any brains and shots you rolled, keep any runners, and then grab up to 3 total dice and roll again. You can keep pressing your luck as much as you want. But be warned, if you reach 3 shots then your turn is over, and you don’t get to count any of the brains.

There are even expansions which add extra dice and bonus rules to follow. We haven’t tried any of those, but they seem pretty cool.

Oh, and the green dice are the easiest for collecting brains and the red dice have more shots on them, so you have easy dice, medium dice, and hard dice. It’s a total gamble what you’ll grab when you randomly pull them from the dice cup, and that’s part of the fun of the game.

This is just a short fun game to play, and I definitely recommend it in between longer games when you are having a long game night or whatever. It’s entertaining.

All right, that is all from us for today. Thank you so much for stopping by, and we’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
