Weekly Wrap-Up (86)

It has been a wonderful couple of days at the cabin. This is not as nice as the cabin we went to for Damian’s birthday back in June, but it does still have its own charm. Our big problem is that there are three cabins with easy line of sight to ours, including the owners/office of this rental place which is literally like 20 feet away. So thank goodness this isn’t actually our honeymoon because it lost some of the romantic charm by having the employees over at our cabin off and on through the day every day because the laundry room is underneath our cabin…which is a few feet away from our hot tub.

Anyway, we went out for some hiking today, and yes, the leaves are so colorful right now, and it made for an awesome time. I’ll probably do a post in a few days where I share some of the photos from the trip, because it is absolutely beautiful right now in Ohio. This is probably one of the prettiest falls we’ve had in the past few years, so that’s a random bright spot in the chaos of 2020.

Oh, I should mention a couple more things…the next session of Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is coming up in just over a week on October 24th. I’ll put up a TBR post probably this weekend, but you can find out more information by going here.

Also, my friends at Colorworld Books are hosting an online “Naruto” event October 15-17th. They have brought in voice actors Maile Flanagan (Naruto), Kyle Hebert (Kiba Inuzuka), Michael Yurchak (Obito Uchicha), Megan Hollingshead (Shizune), Derek Stephen Prince (ShinoAburame), and Brian Donovan (Rock Lee) for panels and hangouts. Video Games: Well, I finally got myself a copy of the “Borderlands: Legendary Collection” for the Switch. I tried playing Borderlands 3 on the PS4 with Damian and it’s okay, but I struggled a bit with it. So we’re going to see if playing on the Switch makes it better/easier for me. Oh, and I guess next weekend some friends are planning on playing Among Us as like a birthday party event so we can stay socially distanced but still do stuff together, so I’m going to play a few more practice games on my own and stuff so maybe I won’t be a complete failure at the game during the party.

Watches: We’ve watched a few things over the last week, but we had to balance that with work and other stuff we needed to get done. We watched “Matrix Reloaded” to continue our rewatch of the trilogy, we’re halfway through season two of “Supernatural” because it is our spooky season rewatch, though we’ve found a few episodes that Damian hasn’t watched before because his parents would keep watching the show when he went to work years ago so he missed some, we watched a few more episodes of “Naruto” here at the cabin so we’re at like episode 15, and we watched a couple episodes of the web series “Narrative Telephone” which is done by the cast of “Critical Role.” So overall I guess it hasn’t been too bad of a week.

Moving on to books.

I haven’t finished reading as much as I would have liked in the past week, but I’ve still managed to do a good bit of reading. I needed to finish A Golden Fury by Samantha Cohoe, because my blog tour review post is going up tomorrow, and then my first cabin read ended up being Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker (AKA Seanan McGuire) because it is just over 200 pages and it read quite quickly.

I’m still ignoring/working on reading The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart. I brought it to the cabin hoping I would finally pick it up and finish it…but then we also made a pit stop at Barnes & Noble and I bought other books and so my book-loving mind and heart have been conflicted about what to read. And obviously I’m still working on The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, because it’s over 1000 pages. But I’m about halfway finished and really enjoying the reread.

And then last night while sitting out by the campfire Damian made so we could make s’mores, I started reading Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco. It definitely fits the fall spooky atmosphere I was hoping for when it comes to reading while at the cabin.

I have so many options for what to read next, and I honestly don’t know what book(s) to choose, so here’s a selection of some of my options–although it is not even close to all of the options available to me here at the cabin. With The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab I get to read about a deal with the devil, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig and The Archive of the Forgotten by A.J. Hackwith deal with magical libraries, A Gathering of Ravens by Scott Oden deals with historical fantasy and a being closely related to death and vengeance, and then I’ve had Hush by Dylan Farrow on my radar for a while and it just feels like it will fit the magical atmosphere I really look for in the fall.

Clearly I have hopes for a lot of plans and a lot of reading, and I have no idea if I’ll be able to get to them all sooner or later, so we’ll just see what happens.
