All right, we have started to arrive at the time of year that usually includes some of my favorite anticipated releases and my favorite reads. There’s just something about reading books in the fall, when the weather starts to cool and you can huddle up under a blanket with a mug of something warm and cozy nearby and just escape into whatever adventure can be found between the covers of the next book in my TBR stack.
Speaking of, once again, there are a number of books I’m looking forward to. September has a fair few releases I’m excited about, and I’m also ready to start reading books that have those fall vibes. But, I’ll go ahead and give a little spoiler for my October TBR–because yes, I’ve already figured that one out too–and it is pretty much all fall/spooky vibes. After a very successful Pride Month reading challenge, my friend/co-worker and I decided we should do it again, so that’s the plan for October.
I’m also working on making a list of books that I’ve read and still need to review, with a priority on my NetGalley reads. Looking towards the end of the year as well as starting to think about my goals for next year, I’m realizing that I need to buckle down and catch up on those a bit to improve my review ratio. So I’m trying to figure out how to incentivize myself to get those done.
Anyway, let’s go ahead and jump into my September TBR. I’m really looking forward to the lineup. It has a lot of books I’m really excited to read.
Twig’s Traveling Tomes by Gryffin Murphy (Sept 8), Espiritu by Aiden Thomas (Sept 8), Morfran, Dark Lord Reformed by S.B. West (Sept 8), A Snake Among Swans by Hannah Kaner (Sept 8)
Honestly, looking at this part of my list, I should probably re-read Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, because I read it in 2020, so I definitely need a refresher before jumping into this sequel. But I’m also very excited for the cozy vibes I’m getting from both Twig’s Traveling Tomes and Morfran, Dark Lord Reformed, so I’m looking forward to reading those as well. Then there’s the newest release from Hannah Kaner. I have been a fan of hers since I read Godkiller, because it was just a fascinating fantasy story.
Meet Cute Magic by Morgan Elizabeth (Sept 8), The Henchperson’s Guide to Unionizing by Marshall J. Moore (Sept 22), The Thief and the Traitor Bride by V.L. Bovalino (Sept 29), Tales From The Territory by Travis Baldree (Sept 30)
Okay, fine, I’m finding myself more and more attracted to cozy and cute stories. The stories are good, and the world is so chaotic that sometimes I want a fun and lighter escape from it all. I’m hoping that Meet Cute Magic fits the vibes evoked by the cover. But it’s also getting close to spooky season, so books like The Henchperson’s Guide to Unionizing also seem greatly intriguing. I really enjoyed reading The Second Death of Locke, so obviously I need to read The Thief and the Traitor Bride soon. And if you’ve been around my blog in the past few years, you’d know that I’m a big fan of Travis Baldree, so of course I can’t wait to read Tales from the Territory and get more of that Legends & Lattes (and friends) goodness.
Remnants of a Scarlet Flame by Cindy L. Sell, The Fey Hotel by Vermilion H. Baine, The Someday Garden by Ashley Poston, Of Swords and Starlight by Wren Jones
When trying to think of what other books I would want to add to my September TBR, I kept mostly thinking about some of the many indie books I have sitting on my shelves, waiting to be read. It’s about time to tackle some of those (or I certainly hope I’ll get some read next month). So I’m putting Remnants of a Scarlet Flame on here, because I do believe this was one of the reads on my TTRPG inspired TBR from the beginning of the year, and I haven’t really read many of those yet. I’ve had The Fey Hotel on my TBR for a couple of years now, and the third standalone in the world is going to be coming out soon, so I should probably start my journey. And then there’s a new release by Wren Jones that is giving off like Sailor Moon meets K Pop Demon Hunters vibes, so I would really like to check out Of Swords and Starlight soon.
Then, not from the indie side of things, I have the newest Ashley Poston release. While her adult releases haven’t hooked me as much as her YA releases, I’ve still enjoyed the reads, so I’m curious to see how The Someday Garden lands in my ranking of all of her books.
