Hey all, Dani here.
It’s the first day of July. Of course, it is also the first Monday of the month, which means that it is once again time to talk about books with my fellow Calendar Girls. I actually look forward to reading the theme reveals and then trying to figure out my honorable mentions and my overall pick each month.
Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was started by Flavia and Melanie, but is now being hosted by Katie and Adrienne. They are all wonderful ladies, and you should check out their lovely blogs. Oh, and if you go to either Katie or Adrienne‘s Calendar Girls post each month, they will have links to all the other wonderful book bloggers participating in this event.
First, more about the Calendar Girls. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.
Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and both Katie and Adrienne will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
Oh, and you don’t have to identify as female to join the Calendar Girls. We welcome readers of all types. So if this sounds like fun for you, join us in all of the fun bookish conversations.
Finally, the July theme is…
Summer Lovin’
Bookish OTP
Normally when it comes to relationships in books, I tend to ship the relationship the author writes in the story. So Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, Tris and Four, Jace and Clary, etc., etc.
But there is one couple I have thought should have happened and it didn’t. There is one couple that I have wanted to be together for nearly two decades now.
Do you want to know who this magical couple is? Well, I’ll tell you in just a minute. Unlike most other months, this time around I don’t actually have any honorable mentions. I’m sure there are so many couples that could qualify for this post, but I could not really think of any of them in a way that made me want to include them. With that being said, I guess let’s just jump into the couple I’ve chosen for this month’s theme.
Firstly, this couple features two characters I really like from the Harry Potter universe. One is an adorable and awkward loyal friend who goes through tremendous growth over the course of the series. The other is fantastically quirky, understanding, and maintains their individuality throughout their time in the series.
And okay, fine, they both end up with people who still complement them, but this is the couple that I wish had sailed. This is my ultimate OTP.
Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood
Come on, just picture them together. They are both pretty darn smart, and kind, and brave. Between Neville losing his parents and being raised by his Gran, and Luna losing her mom, I think they understand each other in a way some others might not. Plus I just think they would look rather cute together. Wouldn’t they just make a great couple?
All right, that’s honestly all I have for today, but I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
Oh this is a nice pick! I have always shipped Luna and Dean Thomas, because at the end of the book when they show up at Hogwarts together I just got a vibe, and there’s nothing like a romantic place like Shell Cottage to bring two people together. But I can totally see Luna with Neville too.

Oooh, I hadn’t considered Luna and Dean. Interesting. Okay, I could see that. To be fair, I have not reread the fifth or sixth books in years, and I have not yet reread the final book.

I don’t even know how many times I’ve read the entire series. Never enough, lol.

It’s pretty much the same with the movies. I have only seen the last few one or two times.

Oh, yeah, I’ve only seen the movies once each. Did not enjoy them enough to re-watch.

They’re not bad, and I do like to put them on in the background sometimes while blogging or reading or painting miniatures, but they could have been so much more.

I will have too remember this when I finally read the series so I can see if I feel the same! Nice pick!

I just think they are both adorable oddballs, and I can’t help but imagine how they would be as a couple.
Thanks for commenting!

Right?! I just think it would be adorable. Of course, the fact that Luna ends up with a Scamander is also cute, so I guess it’s all right.
