Books!, Readathon, Signal Boost

#AGameofBooksathon June Wrap Up and July TBR

Hey all, Dani here.

Before I get to talking about books, I first need to give a huge birthday shout out to my other half, Damian. It has meant a lot to have him join me on this blogging adventure, and by the time this post goes live, I’m hoping that we’ve had a wonderful day together.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun with the first round of this readathon. It was created and hosted by Noura at The Perks of Being Noura, and I enjoyed my personal challenge of choosing my house not by which was my favorite, but which had the fewest members. That turned out to be House Baratheon, which had nobody until I joined. I’m happy to say that three other people joined me, so while we are still one of the smaller houses, I think we have pretty decent odds at being a great house in the overall rankings.

All right, let’s get started with this wrap up and TBR.

Round One Wrap Up

  • The Game of Thrones: First book in a series/trilogy Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy
  • House Targaryen: Book with a Mythical Creature or DragonsCrown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto
  • Daenerys: Book featuring a Strong Female CharacterGameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead
  • Westeros: Book set in a fictional placeRoar by Cora Carmack
  • House Tyrell: Book with a plant on the cover or a green coverSorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
  • House Stark: Book with family dynamics or siblingsThe Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco
  • House Lannister: Book with a red coverKingsbane by Claire Legrand
  • House Greyjoy: Book with pirates or set at seaDaughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
  • House Baratheon: Book with a king or queen/royaltyThe Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
  • A Clash of Kings: SequelSoul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa
  • Wildlings: ParanormalBlood Bound by Rachel Vincent

And I also re-read A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin just because.

With all 11 categories completed, that means I qualified as a King/Queen, and hopefully earned a lot of points for House Baratheon.

Let’s talk about Round Two, which isn’t quite as long. There are only seven prompts instead of eleven, but the prompts are all based on genres, which means that I’m going to have to read some genres that I don’t generally pick up. Hopefully it will be a good month of reading.

Round Two: The Seven Kingdoms

  • FantasySpin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
  • HorrorSpecter by Katie Jane Gallagher
  • Sci-Fi/Historical FictionSkyward by Brandon Sanderson
  • Young AdultShatter the Sky by Rebecca Kim Wells
  • Middle GradeKeeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger
  • MysteryThe 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
  • Contemporary/RomanceScreen Queens by Lori Goldstein

So obviously this is what I’m hoping will be my TBR. Could I end up reading The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee for the Fantasy category? Maybe. Is it possible that I different Contemporary/Romance woos me away from what I have planned? Possibly. But as of right now, this is what my mood is saying I want to read.

Because when it comes to this TBR, three of the books are ones that I have e-galleys of, and three are books that I already own. That means that one of the seven I don’t have in my hands yet, so…I could always end up going to B&N or something and finding another book for the prompt. We’ll see.

Anyway, that’s all I have for today. Good luck to everyone participating in #AGameofBooksathon, especially those in my wonderful House Baratheon.

I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
