Hey guys Damian here,
another great manga for review today. It’s getting closer to memorial day and that means four days of no phone access. It is refreshing and a bit of a pain in the butt at the same time but worth it. Camping and fair food for a few days won’t kill me and plenty of time for reading and writing. Anywho here’s my next manga review.
Summary
His name is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers. Bearer of a gigantic sword, and iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with the Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and dooms him as their sacrifice. But Guts won’t take his fate lying down; he’ll cut a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned- and anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! Accompanied by Puck the Elf, more an annoyance than a companion, Guts relentlessly follows a dark, bloodstained path that leads only to death. . . or vengeance.
Created by Kentaro Miura, Berserk is manga mayhem to the extreme – violent, horrifying and mercilessly funny – and the wellspring for the internationally popular anime series. Not for the squeamish or the easily offended, Berserk asks for no quarter – and offers none!
Review
Rating: 5
I’ll be honest I have been waiting to read this one for quite some time, especially since I had watched a bit of the anime and three movies that prequel the story line on Netflix. The summary says what needs to be said about this manga. It gives no quarter and isn’t for the squeamish. It comes wrapped in plastic, and with good reason, as it is rated for Mature readers with plenty of explicit content. With this manga though, it is the darkness of it I have come to actually enjoy reading, though some of the things that happen to bodies remind me of some of the horrific ways that people can be killed. It will give you every bit of detail it feels you need to understand the kinds of monsters that this man is willing to fight and the kinds of hell he is willing to endure just to survive and get his revenge. The only question is that in the end will it all be worth it?
