Book Blogger Memory Challenge

Wow, it’s been what feels like a long while since I last did a tag post, and I wasn’t even tagged in this one. I saw it over on Katie at Never Not Reading‘s blog, and I thought it sounded fun, so I wrote it down in case I needed a tag. With my hopeful new blog schedule, it turns out that I need to start tracking down some book tags so I can prep up my Sunday posts.

Anyway, the rules for this one are simple. You have to answer everything without looking up an answer–whether that is online using Goodreads or something or getting up and looking on your shelves. You just answer each prompt. Obviously I’m going to put my answers down, and then after I’m done I’m going to go back and fact check my answers, so I’ll also include whether I was right or not. It should be fun.

All right, let’s do this.

1. Name a book written by an author called Michael

The first one that came to mind is Timeline by Michael Crichton. I first devoured this book back in…I wanna say 2003 or something like that. It was around when they made the movie. Then I proceeded to read a few other books by Crichton and I really enjoyed them. Actually this is now making me want to re-read this book because it is pretty darn good. Also, it would be one that I would probably add in to my time travel recommendations books.

2. Name a book with a dragon on the cover

Of course my mind immediately goes to a newer release: The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I haven’t read this one yet, but it is on my TBR list for next weekend, so we’ll see what happens.

3. Name a book about a character called George

I’m pretty sure that John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men follows George and Lennie. Yep, I looked it up and George was the name of Lennie’s friend and companion. Whew, and here I was thinking that my memory of reading this book back in high school was sketchy. Good to know I haven’t forgotten everything.

4. Name a book written by an author with a surname Smith

This one took a few moments to think of but Bloodleaf by Crystal Smith. Speaking of, I still need to pick up this book.

5. Name a book set in Australia

Oh, I could definitely think of a few for this one, but I’m going with Old Magic by Marianne Curley (or her Guardians of Time series also works…though they all have to do with time travel, so the settings tend to fluctuate a little bit). Oh well, I’m still counting them.

6. Name a book with a month in the title

Okay, the only book I can think of right now with a month in the title is actually a manga called Your Lie in April. And that’s just because I generally see it taking up a pretty decent amount of space on the manga shelves at B&N, not because I plan to pick it up or read it or anything. In general I tend to read stuff with superpowers or fantasy settings or magic in general. This one seems to be more focused on a musician who has stopped playing and another person trying to help them find their way back to music, and while that sounds interesting, it just doesn’t sound like something I really desire to read right now.

7. Name a book with a knife on the cover

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin…at least the cover I have has a blade on it. Though it might be more of a sword than a knife. If that’s the case then I’ll say Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers.

Actually, looking at that handle and crossguard, it looks more like a short blade, so it might be a dagger. Cool. There are so many books with swords and daggers on the cover.

8. Name a book with the word “one” in the title

That’s an easy one: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

9. Name a book with an eponymous title

First off, eponymous means giving one’s name to something, in this case a book, meaning the title is the main character’s name. I’m going with a classic: Emma by Jane Austen

10. Name a book turned into a movie

There are so many possibilities for this one, but I’m going with one of my favorite book-to-movie adaptations: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
