Hey all, Dani here.
One more Middle Grade March review for your reading pleasure. Okay, yeah, so in my sleepy blog prepping mind, these intros may start to sound a tiny bit loopy. Oh well.
In other news, we will get internet installed at the house next Friday, so bear with me over the next week.
Summary
For centuries mystical creatures of all description were gathered into a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite.
Kendra and her brother, Seth, have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws keep relative order among greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken — Seth is a bit too curious and reckless for his own good — powerful forces of evil are unleashed, and Kendra and her brother face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save their family, Fablehaven, and perhaps even the world, Kendra and Seth must find the courage to do what they fear most.
My Thoughts
Rating: 4 stars
This was such a fantastical beastly tale. I think Hagrid would have had a heyday in Fablehaven.
My big complaint is that the only reason action happened in the plot was because Seth couldn’t follow or obey rules. If he wasn’t an adventurous boy, then I believe nothing would have happened in this book aside from a boring couple weeks at their grandparents’ house.
But I enjoyed watching Kendra and Seth learn about Fablehaven and the creatures within the preserve. I think this was a wonderful start to a series and I definitely look forward to delving into the rest of the series.
