TBR Purge Part 3

Hey all, Dani here.

So my TBR list on Goodreads is still up at 789 books, which is just massive. I’m working on purging that down a bit and I figured I would continue sharing my progress and process with you. Basically I am eliminating books I just haven’t been in the mood for in quite a long time, as well as books I’m no longer finding myself interested in. Then there’s the book series that I still want to read but I’m really far behind with. For those series, I am trying to keep the first book on the list but eliminate the rest. I am decluttering my TBR pile in the digital world while in the real world I am decluttering my life as well.

My boyfriend and I made the decision to officially move in together, and we are also moving from his one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom apartment. The spare bedroom is going to become our library, which is awesome. However, I’ve realized that I have accumulated a lot of junk over the years, so I am spending time going through boxes and getting rid of stuff I just don’t use or don’t see myself using in the future. Overall there’s just a bunch of purging going on.

Anyway, much like the last two times I have tackled this TBR list, I am going to look at the next 30 books on the list and determine if they will stay or go. This is an extreme variation of the Down the TBR Rabbit Hole post that has been circulating the book blogs lately. That post has you look at 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books on your TBR list. I don’t recommend my extreme 30 books per post option…unless you are like me and have an impossibly large list of books to read. Let’s get started.

An Artificial Night, Late Eclipses, One Salt Sea, Ashes of Honor, and Chimes of Midnight by Seanan McGuire. I kept the first book of the October Daye series on my list and as these are books 3-7, for now I can safely eliminate them from the list.

The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller. I picked this book up many years ago, sort of around the Twilight era, and I just have never read it. A couple times I picked it up to read the back in case it sounded like something I was in the mood to read it, and each time I set it back down. Sorry book, I’m just not interested in you.

Magic in the Blood, Magic in the Shadows, Magic on the Storm, Magic at the Gate, Magic on the Hunt, and Magic on the Line by Devon Monk. I started reading the first book in this series and then set it down after a few chapters. At the time I just wasn’t in the mood for it, but I have yet to pick it back up. So I’m keeping the first book on my list, but those listed here are books 2-7 so for now I can get rid of them.

Dewey’s Nine Lives: The Legacy of the Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions by Vicki Myron. I loved reading about Dewey Readmore Books, and I have been wanting to check out this second book for a while. I’m keeping this one.

Inheritance by Christopher Paolini. The final book of the series and the only one I haven’t read. I’m working on a series reread right now so I plan to get to this book sometime soonish.

Cast in Courtlight, Cast in Secret, Cast in Fury, Cast in Silence, and Cast in Chaos by Michelle Sagara. I read the first book of the series and it was okay. I guess I always assumed I would try to press on in the series and hope that it ended up winning me over, but I just never picked up book two, and at this point I don’t think I’m going to. Goodbye books.

Magician’s Muse by Linda Joy Singleton. I think this was the last book of a series that I actually rather enjoyed several years ago. But I don’t know that I want to reread the whole series just so I can finish it properly. Sorry, but goodbye.

Rogue, Pride, Prey, Shift, and Alpha by Rachel Vincent. I own this whole series in e-book so I’ll never really get rid of them, but until I’m in the mood for the series, I think I can say goodbye to them.

Working Stiff by Rachel Caine. Generally I enjoy reading books by Rachel Caine, and so I thought I would give this one a try, but I just can’t do it guys. Maybe if I liked zombie-esque books more it would be a different story.

Shadow Heir by Richelle Mead. I kept the second and third books of this series because I know I want to read them at some point, so I’m keeping this one as well.

Firespell & Hexbound by Chloe Neill. I bought this omnibus edition of the first two books in this series, intending to read it sometime soon. Obviously that has not happened, and at this point it probably won’t. Goodbye.

Trial by Fire by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This is another book that is part of a series I own in ebook so at some point I may continue with the series, but for now it is not a priority.

Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer. This book is part of a series that I’ve already started to eliminate from my TBR list and my collection in general, so I can get rid of this one as well.

Well, okay then, of the 30 books I listed today, I’m only keeping 3 of them. That is a drastic cut to my TBR list, but I still have so very many books to go through. How are your TBR lists looking? Does anyone else have a list as out of control as mine?

  1. The Inheritance Series – so good! I hope you get to read the final one soon. I read them all back to back and loved them! I’d love to hear your thoughts once you finish the series!
