Okay, so my co-worker and I had a blast with our Pride reading challenge in June, so we decided to do it again for October. This time the books have to fit the vibes of fall or spooky. So horror books, paranormal books, contemporaries set during fall, etc. Since I read a whole bunch of fantasy books most of the time, I’m imagining lots of ghosts, vampires, werewolves, witches, etc in my future.
As always, I do have a few anticipated releases on this list, and they are books I do have on my e-reader via NetGalley currently. After that there are a whole bunch of other options that I could pick up, but I’m not exactly fully set on a definitive TBR. I will say that what I have in this post is not all-inclusive of my options, but it is longer than my typical monthly to be read post, because there were just so many books that I wanted to show off. I obviously don’t know if my mood is going to be more cozy spooky or paranormal type reads, or if I want to delve deeper into the darkness with books that lean a little more towards horror.
So, yes, lots of options, and let’s get into them now.

These are my NetGalley options coming out in October and November that fit the vibes of a spooky season reading challenge. I have been holding off on reading The Dues & Don’ts of Magic and The Hearth Witch’s Guide to Spite & Spellwork since my co-worker and I decided to do another reading challenge. I have a feeling that I’ll read them quickly, and I will probably read them as soon as October starts, so that’s very exciting.

Oh look, all selections that have the vibes of a small town cozy romance. Usually these types of books are ones that I read fairly quickly, so any of these would definitely help with my reading challenge…plus, come on, they do look like perfect fall/spooky season reads.
The Deathless One by Emma Hamm, The Shrouded Queen by Ashley Tropea, House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau, The Executioners Three by Susan Dennard
For the books here, they all seem a little darker on the spooky vibes, but still not fully in horror territory. I am looking forward to them. I’ve owned the Susan Dennard book since it came out and just haven’t picked it up before now. The others are new-to-me authors, but I am excited to try them out.
Lycans & Lattes by Ali K. Mulford and K. Elle Morrison, The Demon Overlord’s Retirement Plan by M.H. Foster, Witches of Dubious Origin by Jenn McKinlay, (Mostly) Human Resources by Grace Viall
Obviously I’m really looking forward to reading the newest cozy paranormal rom-com by Ali K. Mulford and K. Elle Morrison. I almost read it this month, but I knew it would be perfect for my October reading challenge, so I made myself wait. I’m also very excited about picking up (Mostly) Human Resources as well as The Demon Overlord’s Retirement Plan. They seem like they will be very fun reads.
Verity Vox and the Curse of Foxfire by Don Martin, Blood at the Root by Ladarrion Williams, Hide the Witches by Miranda Lyn, Colin Gets Promoted and Dooms the World by Mark Waddell
How about a couple of books aimed at younger readers? I have Verity Vox and the Curse of Foxfire and Blood at the Root, both books I’ve been seeing a lot about on social media, and now seems like a great time to actually read them. Then there’s a couple of books I picked up during one of my recent book shopping trips, and I’m also totally ready to read them.
Blood Moon by Britney S. Lewis, Bone of my Bone by Johanna Van Veen, Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell, Nightstrider by Sophia Slade
The final selection of books for this post (although I did already find a few other options I could have added here after looking at my shelves and scrolling through my e-reader), deal with magic and nightmares and a little horrific spooky times, and I’m hoping that I can get through as many of these books as possible. That is partly because I want to have a successful reading challenge month, but also because some of these books have been waiting on the shelves to be read for too long, and I’d really like to actually get around to reading them.
