WIP Wednesday – March 8

Hey all, Sam and David here.

Welcome back to another WIP Wednesday, where David and I sit down and talk about everything we’ve read, watched, and done over the past week. It’s a nice way to keep track of what all is going on, and we’d love to hear what you have been up to as well….so feel free to chat it up in the comments.

I think we’re starting to get into a pretty decent routine with things, and that means we’ll start to have more and more to discuss in these weekly posts, which is pretty cool…although if it ever gets to be too much for one post, we just might have to start scheduling more than one post each day. I guess we’ll just see what happens.

Sam

I actually have a pretty decent amount of stuff to recap from the last week, so let’s just get started.

Reading: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves The Druid’s Call by E.K. Johnston, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves The Road to Neverwinter by Jaleigh Johnson, The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty, Ravensong by Cayla Fay

The D&D movie prequel novels arrived on Monday, and I read them Monday and Tuesday. I thought they did a great job of introducing the characters, and leading into the movie coming out in a couple weeks.

And thanks to all of the books I’ve completed recently, I’m really starting to feel like my reading desire is coming back. With any luck that means I’ll be having good reading updates each week (I hope anyway). So, I’m pretty excited about that. The reviews for Ravensong and The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi are coming later this week.

I’m also in the middle of a few other books, which I have penciled in for review next week, so my reading calendar is looking pretty nice right now. Actually, my review list for the rest of this month looks pretty cool, so I’m excited about that.

Watching: “Gilmore Girls” Season 5 and Season 6 (in progress), “Shadow and Bone” Season 1 (in progress), “Lost Girl” Season 2, Season 3, and Season 4 (in progress), “The Flash” Season 3 (in progress)

Yes, I’m still in the middle of a number of re-watches.

And David and I are watching last week’s episode of “Critical Role” Campaign 3, so we can watch this week’s episode live. It has been such a long time since we’ve actually been caught up and able to watch live, at least a few months. So it’s nice that we’ve finally managed to find the time to squeeze in all of the episodes. This is the 8 year anniversary of Critical Role, and I’m sure tomorrow’s episode is going to be a big one.

Writing: Okay, so I had a realization the other day…the only book I ever published, I released in like June or July of 2013…which means that I’m coming up on the 10th anniversary. Now, I took the book out of print (physically and digitally) years ago, and I know I could definitely add some content and improve on some scenes and chapters…so I’m wondering…should I go ahead and do an editing pass through the book, update the cover, and then release the book this summer? It might motivate me to finish up the last few chapters of the sequel and finally put it out in the world.

I’m also still obviously writing up these blog posts, and getting back into the swing of writing daily on 4thewords for Tale of Blood and Mourning. I probably won’t share many snippets or anything while I work on the rough draft, but you can read the entire first chapter in my end of February Weekend Writer post. I can say that this book is the first in a planned 4 book series (although I’m no stranger to expanding the story and the world the deeper I get into things).

Other: I guess my gaming update will continue to go here. I’ve been getting on “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” for a little bit each day. And we had a friend over and we ended up playing “Stardew Valley” for a little while and then we played “Tiny Tina’s Wonderland” for a bit as well. It was a fun time.

Then we had our weekly game night with friends again, and we played a couple rounds of Zombie Dice, a round of Blockbuster, and then a game of Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, which was a lot of fun. I really enjoy having these game nights, and I look forward to having them for a long time to come.

Oh…and I have plans for some field trips in the future. So, not only do we live just an hour and a half away from Mark Twain’s boyhood home, but I just discovered that we only live 5 hours away from the Rocky Ridge home where Laura Ingalls Wilder lived out the end of her life. Considering how much I loved the Little House books when I was a kid, this news thrilled me, and I definitely plan to visit. Actually, there’s a few Laura Ingalls Wilder homes and museums in the area, considering she lived in Wisconsin, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri. I’m going to have to visit as many as I can, just not all in the same trip.

Actually, I need to do more research to see what all cool museums and such are about a day of travel away. I definitely think we’re going to have to do at least a few day trip up to Chicago at some point too. It’s only a 4 hour drive (or train ride—my vote’s for train). I’ve only been to Chicago a few times for conventions and I only really saw the train station or the airport, and then the hotel and the convention center. So I want to go and be a tourist.

David

Gaming: Still going strong with Warframe while I can, it has been alot more fun playing with others online. Work has not left much time to play it but I seem to be making a decent amount of progress across the cosmos.

I am still slowly grinding my way up in levels in this game as well as Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Compared to the action filled arsenal of sci fi exploration, this one seems a bit slow, but I really do enjoy the strategic play of it.

Printing: Most of my free time not watching shows with Sam or playing games has been filled with designing small tokens that can be useful to people who play TTRPGs. Right now the ones I am designing are more geared towards Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, but I am hoping to add some more simple designs to the cache of ones I have already made.

I have 7 designs in the process of test prints and so far so good, though some resizing might need to happen for one of them. If there are some things you would want to see as useful tokens and such for your TTRPGs leave us a comment and we can chat about that.

The Cinderwings are still going strong for the most part, though after giving the printers a day or two off they have decided to be a little finicky and adjustments are having to be made to the bed leveling and such. Nothing we have not had to deal with before.

I have finally begun the printing of the armor for my very own Goblin Slayer cosplay, I even have leather and furs to add for extra awesomeness. Wish me luck guys cause it is gonna take up a lot of filament, but I hope to get it done maybe by the end of the month at the earliest. I have decided to start with the small stuff and see how the bigger nozzle works on the big printer.

Manga: I received a couple of manga from a buddy of mine to try and out and I think the first one might be a miss. Its title is “To Save the World, Can You Wake Up the Morning After With A Demi-Human.” I like the premise of the story but one big part of it just blares out that it feels wrong to me and I will most likely not continuing it from this first volume.

I am looking forward to trying out a manga titled “You Like Me, Not My Daughter?” Based on the title alone I feel like it should be fun or least filled with drama, which can be its own sort of fun as well. Man some of these titles get a little long don’t they? Well I’m sorry my post is not as fun filled as Sam’s, but do not think I am just saying that to be lazy. These fun things don’t make themselves and I have a big project to be getting started on.

All right, well that is all from us for today. What have you been up to recently? We’d love to hear all about it! Thanks so much for stopping by and we’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
