#JolabokaflodReadathon 2022

Hey all, Sam here.

So, again, it’s been a little bit, but I have good news…more content is coming. I’m going to do an exciting announcement post about it all very soon, but I wanted to get this posted now because it’s time sensitive.

Back in 2019, I created a readathon based on the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokaflod. Now, I created it literally the day of the event, so it’s not like I had any time for promotion or anything like that, but I had a nice time doing it myself, and I decided then and there that I would do better the next year. 2020 rolled around and I did do a little better, and even had a couple people join me, so yay, progress. Then came 2021….and I fell into a major reading and blogging slump and basically just stopped doing everything.

Welcome to 2022, and I’m starting to break out of my slumps, or at least I’m working on breaking out of them, and I find myself holed up inside because of the weather…and I want to read. So, why not resurrect this readathon idea? I’ll do better about handling this event in 2023.

So, I love the idea of the Christmas Book Flood: spending my Christmas Eve cuddled up on the couch, drinking hot cocoa, and reading books. Then I thought that maybe other people might want to join me, so #JolabokaflodReadathon was born.

When? 6pm on December 24th through 6am on December 25th to coincide with the Christmas Eve exchange and reading evening.

Do you have to read the whole time? No, of course not. Even just sitting down to read for an hour or so is perfectly fine. But if you want to stay up all night reading then that’s great too.

If you post about this on Twitter or Instagram, use the hashtag #JolabokaflodReadathon so I can follow along.

Now for my TBR for this year’s event…I’m going to start off with catching up on some of my manga series, but I may pick up some other books depending on my mood. We’ll see what happens. I’ll also try to do a readathon wrap up post in a couple days.

You may be asking why my TBR is so big…well, I’m holed up inside due to cold and snow…so I figured even though the official part of this readathon is 6pm to 6am, I’m just going to start reading now (which is almost 9am my time). This isn’t a readathon that’s particularly strict on rules. So read some books, drink some nice hot beverages, and just enjoy a relaxing time cuddled up with yourself, your pets, your friends, or your family.

Happy Jolabokaflod! And Happy Holidays!
