Calendar Girls: January 2021

Hey all, Dani here.

Hello and welcome back to another year of the Calendar Girls Book Club. I’m excited to be here, hosting again this year. 2020 was a year of a lot of chaos and change and definitely some stress, anxiety, and burnout.

Anyway, it is the first Monday of the Month and that means it is once again time for a Calendar Girls post.

Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was started by Flavia and Melanie, and then it was being hosted by Katie and Adrienne. They are all wonderful ladies, and you should check out their lovely blogs. Okay, so pretty much everyone is on a hiatus due to COVID-19 and all the stresses that brings, so I’m hosting Calendar Girls on my own for a little bit.

So if you link back to me, I can keep track of all the book picks and posts each month. Thanks, everyone!

First, more about the Calendar Girls. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.

Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and the hostess will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!

Oh, and you don’t have to identify as female to join the Calendar Girls. We welcome readers of all types. So if this sounds like fun for you, join us in all of the fun bookish conversations.

So, without further ado, the January theme is…

Look to the Future

Most Anticipated Release

Obviously there are a whole bunch of books I’m really looking forward to for this year, so just choosing one winner will be rather difficult. So for the moment I’m just going to go through the books I’m excited about and then we’ll see if one shining beacon of a book comes through as my top pick.

All right…let’s look at some books.

I know I’m probably missing a few that I couldn’t think of…and I’m also missing a couple that don’t even have a stand-in cover yet…like new books by Jen DeLuca and Kerry Winfrey.

The obvious choice from me for most anticipated release of the year is Blessed Monsters by Emily A Duncan, because I have absolutely been a huge fangirl of the trilogy so far. But there’s so many other books I’m also looking forward to…

You know what…I’m going to do a top 5 first.

I am very excited about these releases, though clearly based on all the books I added in earlier, there are A LOT of books I’m looking forward to. I started putting together my release calendar for 2021 back in November and it already stretches through October 2021. There’s a few books I’ve already been lucky enough to be approved for via NetGalley, and I’m really hoping to be in a reading mood so I can get them read and then reviewed in a timely manner.

I think the wide range of awesome sounding fiction, particularly in my preferred genres of Fantasy and Sci-Fi, has me extremely excited for 2021.

Okay, so I think out of that top 5, the book I’m going to declare as my most anticipated release is…

The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec

Man, it’s so difficult to choose because I’m excited about all of these books (and more that I didn’t mention today) but Calendar Girls posts work best if I can limit it down to one…possibly two…options.

So there you have it. Thanks for sticking with me through this lengthy anticipated releases post. If you have joined in to Calendar Girls already, great! Link your post back to me and I will link to it here at the bottom of my post. And if you haven’t joined Calendar Girls yet, but you would like to, feel free to join in! While our usual post day is the first Monday of the month, as long as you get your post up and link back to me (or whoever is hosting), it gets included on the master list.

I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
