Weekly Wrap-Up (75)

Hey all, Dani here.

It’s the final weekly wrap-up for the month of July, and I’m happy to say that I actually have some stuff to wrap-up/discuss with you, which is way better than what I had last week.

We’ve just gotten all checked into our hotel for the next five nights. We already had all these days off for Gen Con, which ended up physically being canceled, but they’re still holding Gen Con Online. With our bad internet, we knew we wouldn’t really be able to participate unless we got a hotel. So our original plan had been to still get a room in Indianapolis and pretend like we were going to Gen Con like normal. But then things got worse with outbreaks and all that, so we canceled our Indy hotel and booked one in Ohio, so we’re only like 45 minutes from home. But the hotel has good internet so we can go to quite a few panels, and even play some remote D&D with friends on Saturday (my birthday!), so I think it’s going to be a decent weekend. Oh, and our hotel room has a full kitchen, so we won’t even be really going anywhere; we have everything we need in the room. –Okay, fine, we might go a block up the street to Wendy’s for a meal. But we’re obviously masked up and taking precautions wherever we go, especially now that Ohio has a mask mandate in place.

Oh, and speaking of conventions, the one convention we still had on our personal calendars, Cincinnati Comic Expo, just canceled for 2020, so no working with Colorworld Books at a convention again this year. Also, Damian and I are thinking that it’s likely that we’re going to have to postpone our wedding as well, because I honestly don’t think that the USA can get all of this under control by October. This just sucks. We had so much that we were looking forward to with 2020 and we’ve had to completely change our plans and our expectations. But there are still people out there ignoring social distancing and either not wearing masks or wearing them the wrong way so they aren’t effective, and acting like nothing has changed and the rest of us are just cowards who believe in hoaxes. It has been a frustrating year, but at least I can still look forward to books

Okay, let’s start with the actual wrap-up stuff.

Still no video gaming to report though…unless you count the fact that I watched Damian play a little Borderlands 3. And, I mean, I guess I did log in to Pokemon Go a couple times and played for a couple minutes each time. Overall, nothing really spectacular to report though.

As for watches, well we did watch a bunch of stuff. I think I forgot to mention last week that we’re still watching “Warehouse 13” but we’ve reached the end of season four already. That means all we have left is the shortened season five and the show is over again, which is sad. We love the antics of the warehouse. Oh, and we also watched “Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame,” just because I was in an Avengers mood, I guess. And, of course, we watched the newest episode of “Critical Role” as well, and that was pretty cool.

Okay, now let’s talk about what I’ve read in the past week, because I have actually finished some books. Yay!

Restaurant to Another World Vol 1 by Junpei Inuzuka and Takaaki Kugatsu, The Weirn Books: Be Wary of the Silent Woods by Svetlana Chmakova, Curse on the Land by Faith Hunter, Flame in the Dark by Faith Hunter, Lobizona by Romina Garber, Circle of the Moon by Faith Hunter, Hounded by Kevin Hearne, and Spells for the Dead by Faith Hunter.

Then there’s what I’m reading right now, which is a reread of City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty, The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind by Jackson Ford, and The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso. Damian wanted to get me something for my birthday so I told him that he could get me a copy of The Empire of Gold to complete my Daevabad trilogy, but I definitely need to re-read the first two before I conclude the series.

Finally, what about what I’m hoping to read next? Well, that’s an amusing idea. Can you guys think back to what I had as my TBR for the month of July? Well, let me remind you.

All of those. Yep. Now, let’s see…how many of those have I read? Umm…A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A Brown. That is literally it. I have really failed on my TBR plans for this month. Now, I did bring a few of those books with me for this long weekend vacation, so perhaps I’ll still partially succeed for my TBR this month.

But I’m not going to be too upset with myself, because I still have read a good number of books. It’s fine. All right, I’m going to run away and read now.

What have you been reading lately? I would love to know, and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
