Weekly Wrap-Up (68)

Woohoo, it’s Wednesday. It has started getting really hot here in Ohio, and unfortunately working in a factory means that it is ungodly hot while at work, so the past couple of days have not been pleasant. But on the happy side of things is my continuing work with Colorworld Books. I’m really enjoying the work, but only doing it for like 6 hours each week makes me feel like I’m not able to do as much work as I would like. Unfortunately as long as I’m also juggling my full-time job, my reading/blogging time, and trying to write my own novel, as well as to spend time with Damian, this is all I can manage to do.

All right, well let’s go ahead and jump into my week in review.

Starting with all that video gaming…or rather lack of video gaming. I’ve actually skipped a few days of playing Animal Crossing to do other things. While it does suck to break certain streaks and such, it is nice to free up that 15 minutes-2 hours that I was spending playing the game. I do want to play more games, but I’m thinking about taking a break from my island for a little while.

Damian really wanted to watch the finale of “Avatar the Last Airbender” again, so we ended up watching the final disc of the DVD  collection, which was fun, but that led us to deciding to re-watch “Legend of Korra.” We’re only a handful of episodes in, but there’s so much of the show that neither of us actually remembered. It’s like we remembered big details but not the smaller ones. Oh, and I binged most of season 2 of “The Originals” over the weekend, and that was pretty enjoyable. I might binge the last few episodes and then jump into season 3 this weekend. We’ll see.

In the past week I finished Super Adjacent by Crystal Cestari, Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron, The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall, and The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. So honestly, not too bad of a reading week. I’m hoping to write up the reviews for these books soon so I can continue to support the creativity of Queer and POC authors.

I am currently reading Spellhacker by M.K. England and The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory. With any luck I’ll continue to keep powering my way through these awesome reads in a day or two each, because then I’ll be able to read quite a few more books this month. I’m focused on The Wedding Date first as a little palate cleanser after all of the fantasy and sci-fi books I’ve been devouring. But, predictably, I will be right back into my fantasy and sci-fi reads because I just really enjoy them.

As for what I’m hoping to read next…well I certainly have options. See…I have quite a few books here that are for GLBT Book Month and actually I think a majority of these reads are also authors of color, which is pretty darn awesome as well. But I don’t know exactly which ones I want to pick up next. I’m actually hoping to do quite a bit of reading this weekend…you know, aside from the zoo trip, which might turn into zoo trip plus bookstore adventure; we’ll see.

But, here’s a look at the books that I tentatively have planned for reading in the month of June. Obviously a bookstore trip could add some more titles to the list, so we’ll see what happens, but I’m hoping between reading on the weekends and our upcoming three day cabin getaway vacation, that I’ll be able to get quite a bit of reading accomplished.

I’ve pretty much been wanting to read all of these books for a little while now, so it makes decision making just a bit more difficult. I guess I’ll either just pick up whatever sounds good as soon as I finish my current reads, or I’ll let the dice gods decide for me. But I seem to be doing pretty good alternating between a Pride Read and a read by a black writer, so I might keep sticking to that. But I don’t know. Honestly it might be whatever book strikes my fancy, a sort of what mood I’m in at that particular moment kind of decision.
