Hey all, Dani here.
It felt like such a long day today, but I’m glad the boring day job portion of things is over, and now I can just look forward to the Colorworld Book Chat starting in about a half-hour. So it should be a pretty fun evening overall. I’m looking forward to it. All right, well let’s just go ahead and get started with the weekly wrap-up portion of things.
I’m not spending as much time playing Animal Crossing as I was, but I am doing a 15 minute check in and run around my island. Right now I have too much other stuff to do that I can’t really focus on improving my island or anything else just yet. But that’s okay. The fake virtual island isn’t important in the grand scheme of things; it’s just a fun diversion from the chaos of the world. But sometimes we need to put the games down and do something, and I’m thinking that now is definitely one of those times.
When it comes to watches, we are watching the 11th Series of Doctor Who, with the Thirteenth Doctor right now, and we also decided to do a binge re-watch of “Akame Ga Kill” in anticipation of the panel with Colorworld LIVE on Thursday, June 4th at 4:30 Eastern/1:30 Pacific.
In the past week I finished Shorefall by Robert Jackson Bennett, Conventionally Yours by Annabeth Albert, The Armored Saint by Myke Cole, Girls Save the World in This One by Ash Parsons, Edens Zero Volume 1 by Hiro Mashima, and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Oh man you guys, it was pretty intense starting my month off with The Hate U Give; that was a highly relevant and compelling read, and I finished it in pretty much one day. I probably could have done it in one sitting but, you know, I had to work.
I am currently reading Super Adjacent by Crystal Cestari and just starting Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron. I figured after the intense realism of my first June read, going to what sounds like a super-power action/romance would be the smart move. And it is also a read for GLBT Book Month. But I also want to keep up my momentum on reading books by black writers, so I’m finally picking up this awesome sounding fantasy. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to fly through both of these, because my June TBR is pretty big, and it would be fantastic to hit most if not all of them.
As for what I’m hoping to read next…I always have so many options that it’s difficult to narrow them down. But I think I want to maybe try to keep up the balance/rhythm of books by black writers and books for GLBT Book Month. And I’m also feeling like jumping around genres and such will be helpful too, so I have sci-fi, contemporary romance, and fantasy all rounded up as possibilities for this next week.
Honestly, there are so many books that I really want to read. It really is just a matter of finding the time to actually read them…and then to find the time to write up all my thoughts for reviews on my blog and Goodreads and all of that.
