Welcome back to my weekly blog series where I talk about everything I’ve done, played, watched, read, and more in the past week. This series started almost two years ago as a way to keep me from slipping into a major blogging slump, and for the first year I only talked about books, but in year two I expanded it so I could talk a little bit more about my geeky passions and hobbies, and I think that it has turned into a pretty cool weekly event here at Mousai Books.
Before I talk about what all I’ve been reading, let’s start with all the other geekery and such going on. I can actually finally say that I did a little bit of gaming again. It’s been a little bit, especially for this particular game. I picked up Skyrim on my Switch Lite again, and…well, I’m still adjusting to the controls and everything else, so I’m not exactly great at it. Damian still finds my sarcastic commentary during conversation with the NPCs is hilarious, and if I lived somewhere with better Internet, I would consider doing some play-through videos so we could all make fun of how bad I am at most video games. But you know what, it’s fine. I’m still mostly enjoying myself. I made up a much different character than when I was playing Skyrim on the PS4–on that one I made a heavy-armor wearing, mace and shield wielding, restoration magic specialist character–so basically a cleric. With this one I made a two-handed weapon barbarian type character. I have pretty much zero talent for playing sneaky or archery based characters.
Speaking of video games, Damian and I bought quite a few games over the weekend. I wanted to give The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt a try, especially since it’s available on Switch, and I also wanted to try some Assassin’s Creed, while Damian wanted to try more of the Assassin’s Creed Games. Also, yes, we know that the Ezio Trilogy pack has both Brotherhood and Revelations in It. We also already owned a copy of Assassin’s Creed II. But now we have two of each, so if we both want to play the game at the same time on different systems then we can. Plus we got a really good deal on the pre-owned games at GameStop. Our other geeky purchase was to go and buy a whole bunch of Baby Yoda (because I refuse to call him “The Child”) stickers. I can’t wait to put them up on my art collage wall.
Oh, and I guess I should talk about watches as well. Well…haven’t done a whole lot of watching. I’m finished with “Arrow” Season 4, and I’m about halfway finished with “The Good Place” Season 2. Well, okay, I’ve also been doing a lot of catch up on “Critical Role – Campaign 2,” and have watched about 8 episodes in the past week, so I think I can be caught up by next week’s episode. We’ll see.
All right, well I guess that brings us around to the time of talking about books.
In the past week I have finished three books, which isn’t bad, but I honestly had hoped to read a bit more than that. To be honest I spent more time at work listening to “Critical Role” and working on some blog prep instead of just reading all of the books. Still, I think I’m doing pretty decent overall in the month of January for completing books. My wrap-up post is pretty lengthy and I haven’t even finished reading for the month yet.
When it comes to my current reads, I’m in the middle of a couple different reads, but I’m hopeful that I’ll finish them both really soon because they both feel like ones I’m going to be completely sucked into and devour quite quickly. I love when I find a book so compelling that I can’t help but read through it as quickly as possible, though there are also books that I dearly love but force myself to take my time and savor the reading experience. Anyway, I’m excited to keep reading both of these.
Finally there’s what I’m hoping to read soon. Now, seeing as how the end of the month is in a couple more days, I’m just going to focus on books I’m hoping to get to before we reach the end of January. On Saturday I’ll be posting my February TBR so you’ll be able to see my super ambitious TBR. These are both NetGalley reads for me, and I’m hoping to finish them soon and then quickly write up some review posts. I’d really love to try and stay close to on-track with my NetGalley reads and reviews this year. I’ve struggled with that over the past couple years, but it is a goal of mine to get better at it. Anyway, these are both books that I’m really looking forward to reading, so I hope that I can start them very very soon.
