Weekly Wrap-Up (48)

It has been a busy and productive week of reading, that’s for sure. I can honestly blame my time at work for that, which is awesome. I’m going to take advantage of being able to read at work for the next few months, because I have no idea what position I’ll be going to once I’m finished with my temporary office position.

Anyway, welcome back to my weekly post where I talk about what I’ve read and done and watched in the past week. It’s pretty great. I can’t talk about video gaming in this week’s post because I haven’t really done any game play. Oops, but I’ll try to get to that a little bit soon.

Okay, let’s talk about watches for a minute. We watched “Justice League” again, and then we went to see “Jumanji: The Next Level” at the theater again. I also finally got Damian to finish watching the first season of “The Magicians” and then we started season two. Oh, and I decided to give the new “Charmed” series a try, but I’ve watched two episodes and I’m not exactly impressed with it. Has anyone else watched it? Does it get better or should I give up now? I also decided to start watching the new series of “Fruits Basket,” and I am really enjoying it so far. Oh, and I randomly decided to try watching the show “Good Girls,” because it seemed like random contemporary drama fun, and sometimes I like shows like that. I don’t think it’s a show I’m going to be watching obsessively or anything, but it is a decently enjoyable show so far.

Now let’s talk about books.

In the past week I have done quite a bit of reading, which I’m super happy about. Honestly with my 2020 Reading Planner that I got from OwlCrate, I’ve been keeping track of how many pages I read each day, so I’ll probably talk about that in a later post, probably my January Wrap-Up. Anyway, the books I completed over the week are: Would Like to Meet by Rachel Winters, Fruits Basket Collector’s Edition Vol 1 by Natsuki Takaya, A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer, Reverie by Ryan La Sala, Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire, and Highfire by Eoin Colfer.

Okay, okay, I have to pause here to admit that I actually ended up DNFing Reverie. I tried to pick it up a few different times and tried to press on when I just wasn’t feeling at all invested in the story and the characters, and it just wasn’t working for me at all. I wanted to enjoy the book because the concept sounded really interesting, but it just felt like a slog, so I gave up. I guess the book just wasn’t meant for me, and that’s okay. I’m trying to be better now and in the future about being okay with putting a book down and walking away from it.

I’m in the middle of or getting started on a few books that I’m hoping will all be as amazing as they sound: All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace, The Unwilling by Kelly Braffet, and The Toll by Neal Shusterman.

As for what I’m hoping to read next, well, I really want to read Infinity Son by Adam Silvera and Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, but I don’t think I’ll have copies in my hands until the final couple days of the month, so they definitely wouldn’t be books that I’ll read in the next week.

So here’s a picture I took a couple days ago of books that sound interesting to me right now, whether because I haven’t read them yet and want/need to, or because I need a re-read before the sequel comes out. For Sky Without Stars, I’ve been granted access on NetGalley to the sequel, and for We Hunt the Flame and The Missing of Clairdelune I have read a whole bunch of books since them so I want a refresher before I head into the next books.

The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood is another book I’d like to read soon, because I was just approved for it on NetGalley and it will be released in just a couple more weeks, so I’d like to get as up-to-date as I can with my NetGalley reads and reviews. My review to approval ratio is a lot lower than I’d like it to be. I do have a goal this year to at least get up to 80%, so I should try and work on writing up all those reviews, and reading the ones I just didn’t read yet.

Basically I just plan to do a whole lot of reading and writing and blog prep, which might end up meaning that there will be bonus reviews coming.
