Review: Great Goddesses: Life Lessons from Myths and Monsters by Nikita Gill

What’s that? Today’s post is a Poetry Review? Why yes it is! Okay, so I don’t read a whole lot of poetry, especially since graduating with my English degree. Flashbacks to poem dissection just makes enjoying them a bit problematic most of the time. Thankfully I’ve managed to read at least one or two poetry collections each year. Last year I discovered poet Nikita Gill because the title and cover of her latest release caught my eye. As it turned out the poems inside were wonderful. So when I heard she had another collection coming out this year, I naturally had to pick it up as soon as I could.

Let’s jump into the review.

My Thoughts

Rating: 5 stars

There were so many outstanding poems in this collection. I feel like I need to read through this whole book as well as Fierce Fairytales again. Actually, I may end up annotating both books because I do feel as if I need to jot down my thoughts and feelings, and highlight some of my favorite lines.

I really enjoyed how these poems spanned from the gods and goddesses beginnings through to the modern era, and how they have grown and adapted over the years.

I felt so many connections with these poems and the deities and their stories and feelings. This collection dealt with love and loss and abuse and grief and anger and hope and patience.

Honestly, I really need poetry collections like this sometimes. Because even though I am in a pretty darn good place with my life, I’m happy with Damian and with our home together and the life we’re building, I sometimes need that little boost of creativity and inspiration. And I felt like this set of poems really did that.

I absolutely cannot wait to see what collection Nikita Gill comes up with next. Her fairy tail collection and now this mythology collection are both outstanding.
