Weekly Wrap-Up (29)

Hey all, Dani here.

Today was a super rough day at work. I was put in a rotation that I haven’t done by myself, only during training, and that training was a couple of hours at least a month ago. So my body is sore, my mind is tired, and I am so glad to be home. I’m also very glad that tomorrow is the last day of the work week for me. And Damian was so sweet and made me go take a hot relaxing shower while he made dinner (one of our Home Chef meals), and he did such a good job. It was so delicious and I ate it all up so quickly. I’ll probably have a post about Home Chef in the near future, because we have really been loving their food.

Anyway, we aren’t here to commiserate about our work days, but hey, if you have a great and fun story from your work day, feel free to share in the comments.

Okay, first up, I said yesterday that I needed to look over my results for the NEWTs to see if I succeeded or not. So, let’s go over what prompts I needed to complete, and which books fulfill those prompts from my August reads.

Ancient Runes

  • A: read recommended by a friend: Assassination Classroom Vol 1
  • E: book written in past tense: The Dragon Republic
  • O: book that has been on your TBR for ages: To Kill a Kingdom

Defense Against the Dark Arts

  • A: book that’s black under the dust jacket: There Will Come a Darkness
  • E: first book you remembered just now from your TBR: Ten Thousand Doors of January

History of Magic

  • A: read a fantasy: Critical Role Vox Machina Origins II #2
  • E: read a book that includes a map: The Eye of the World

All right, so based on these prompts and the fact that there is a title beside each of them means that yes, I did just manage to succeed on my NEWTs, so I can be a wizard librarian. Awesome.

Next up, let’s talk about watches. I know we finished Volume 2 of the animated “X-Men” series, and we’re about 2/3 of the way through season 9 of “The Big Bang Theory.” At the hotel we watched some but not all of “Happy Gilmore,” and “The Longest Yard.” Oh, and Damian is watching “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.” So, not a whole lot of watches to update, but still it’s something.

Now it is time to talk about books: what I’ve read in the past week, what I’m currently reading, and what I’m hoping to start reading soon.

So, I have only managed to read so much already in September because I picked up a number of volumes of manga. To Kill a Kingdom and My Hero Academia Smash! Vol 1 were my final reads in August. Everything else I’ve read in the first few days of September. Also, seriously, I know that I have heard a medium level of hype for many years about The Girl of Fire and Thorns but now I totally get it. I absolutely loved it, and I cannot wait until I get paid on Friday so I can get the rest of the trilogy (I’m not sure if that means ordering online or if I can get Damian to drive down to B&N yet).

Okay, so for current reads, I am currently just starting (or possibly in the middle of) Hunted by Meagan Spooner, and my next book to pick up is The Valiant by Lesley Livingston. Clearly my September TBR is full of some really cool fantasies with what will hopefully be some awesome and badass female protagonists.

As for what I’m reading next, well, that will probably be The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke, and A Demon in Silver by R.S. Ford. Then again, part of me is honestly thinking about picking up something like Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children or The Raven Boys as a re-read. Or I’m also tempted to possibly pick up a contemporary romance. I’m not sure yet.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week. Let me know what you’re reading in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
