#AGameofBooksathon Announcement & Tentative TBR

Hey all, Dani here.

I’m joining another readathon. It kept popping up on my Twitter feed so I investigated it more and decided that this sounds like a fun time. For all of you Game of Thrones fans, or really, even if you’re not, this readathon was created by Noura from The Perks of Being Noura, and the first round is starting soon.

#AGameofBooksathon will have three rounds (but the third round is totally optional). Round One will take place from June 1st until July 1st, Round Two will be July 2nd until August 1st, and then Round Three actually takes place from June until the end of the year.

You can find out all the specifics on Noura’s blog, but when you sign up, you choose which of the main houses from GoT/ASoIaF you want to be a part of. Completing categories for each round of the readathon will earn points for your house, and there is also a Group Book that will earn some major points.

When I decided to sign up for this (Thursday evening, so just a couple days ago), I saw that my favorite houses (Stark, Targaryen, and Tyrell had the most people signed up in them. On the other side of the spectrum House Baratheon had nobody signed up. So I may have made the super fun decision to be a member of House Baratheon just to see how well I can do. I don’t know if other people are going to join me, but either way, I’m going to try and earn as many points as I can.

Round One’s categories are mostly based around various factions from the series. Round Two is The Seven Kingdoms and its categories focus on genre. Round Three is about reading the rest of the books in A Song of Ice and Fire. The group book for the readathon is A Game of Thrones–which I’ve already read and plan to re-read. But then Round Three adds in A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons, and each of these books will also earn a lot of points for your house. I’ve been meaning to continue with this series for a while, so I guess this is perfect motivation.

I have not picked out anything for the Round Two categories, because that is something for me to worry about when I get closer to July, but I have started to formulate a TBR for June based on the Round One prompts, so let’s go over all of the categories and then I’ll talk about the books I’m thinking about reading.

Round One

  • The Game of Thrones: First book in a series/trilogy
  • House Targaryen: Book with a Mythical Creature or Dragons
  • Daenerys: Book featuring a Strong Female Character
  • Westeros: Book set in a fictional place
  • House Tyrell: Book with a plant on the cover or a green cover
  • House Stark: Book with family dynamics or siblings
  • House Lannister: Book with a red cover
  • House Greyjoy: Book with pirates or set at sea
  • House Baratheon: Book with a king or queen/royalty
  • A Clash of Kings: Sequel
  • Wildlings: Paranormal

Round Two: The Seven Kingdoms

  • Fantasy
  • Horror
  • Sci-Fi/Historical Fiction
  • Young Adult
  • Middle Grade
  • Mystery
  • Contemporary/Romance

Here’s what I have for my TBR as of right now. I have so many books that actually work for multiple categories, but I’m trying to read a different book for each prompt. Honestly considering that I read something like 15-20 books each month, I think I should be able to fulfill all eleven prompts with their own unique books.

Two of these books are technically re-reads, but one was released in 2011 and the other came out in 2013 and I read both right before or right after their release date, so it’s almost going to be like reading a new book. The other four are newer releases that I just really need to read, so it seems like the time to put them on a TBR.

Are you thinking of joining #AGameofBooksathon? It seems like a good time and a fun way to read even more books, so I’m looking forward to it. That is all from me today but I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
