Manga Review: Terra Formars Vol. 1

Hey everybody Damian Trypp is back,

I’ve been busy I know, but I haven’t forgotten about any of you book fans. Decided to throw out a review today and will have one coming up tomorrow as well. On a good note I have a lot more manga, the bad note I’ll need a new book shelf before I buy some more. Going to be doing some cosplays at GenCon and Cincinnati Comic Book Expo this year so money is going to be a little tight. However I have enough manga to last me for a while and each one is waiting to get a review so it won’t be as bad. I’ll tell you a few of these manga threw me for a loop when I read them and a few made me just want to keep reading non-stop. I look forward to some of your input on these and well as some recommendations.

Thanks for checking out my review and enjoy.

Summary

In the late 26th century, overpopulation on Earth is reaching the breaking point, and humanity must find new frontiers. The terraforming of Mars has taken centuries but is now complete. The colonization of Mars by humanity is an epoch-making event, but an unintended side effect of the terraforming process unleashes a horror no one could ever have imagined. . .

After humanity’s first manned mission to the Red Planet was lost, a second expedition arrives. The explorers prepare to exterminate the cockroaches that were used to transform the Martian environment, but are shocked to discover that the insects have mutated into giant, aggressive humanoids with one overriding goal – exterminate the humans! However, this crew of explorers has each undergone the “Bugs Procedure,” terrifying experimental surgery designed to make them more than human. . .

Review

Rating 4.5

Okay so this one was an interesting one to say the least. Humans and space travel don’t usually work together like we would hope and when you’re talking creatures wanting to destroy humans, well it doesn’t end pretty. I was expecting action when I started to read this but to be honest probably about as gore filled as Berserk, or Smokin’ Parade and that’s on both sides. It makes it a little scary to imagine of for some reason something on our own planet mutated and began to go around wanting to destroy us all, but with roaches of all things let’s be honest that makes it worse. Our reactions to them though could be the very reason they wish to destroy humans in this manga world. One thing I will say about this manga volume is when the poop hits the fan it hits it at Mach 5, and everyone has to deal with aftermath. the creators went through a lot of detail explaining the things that happened to each of the humans after they underwent the  “Bugs Procedure” and how exactly it changed them. My only complaint really is the  amount of detail that did not seem to go into creating the humanoid roaches, but maybe that’s the point, a simple creature becoming a terrible threat when people would not expect it probably doesn’t need a lot of detail to be scary.
