New House, New Library Tour

Well, I was going to do another review today, but I decided that I wanted to do something different. And I’ve been promising a new tour of my bookshelves since the move, so now seems a pretty good time to do that.

I think I’m happy with my setup right now, but books may shift around as I continue to add to my collection and such. I have room for a couple more bookcases if I really need to, so we’ll see what happens.

First I’ll start with the broad view of all of the shelves. My hardcovers are all on an open wall in the big part of our master bedroom, and I see them every day first thing when I wake up, and also get to look at them right before bed. There’s something comforting in knowing that there are a bunch of books nearby. All of my paperback shelves are in a little nook area, which makes taking photographs in that area a bit difficult, but there’s enough room down the middle to comfortably walk or sit, which is nice.

All right, now let’s get specific on these shelves.

Bookcase #1 features most of my tall hardcovers. Unlike when we lived at the apartment, my books have a little more room here–one of my Billy Bookcases had been used for our D&D stuff there, but now it’s back to being one of my bookcases. I haven’t had to go vertical with any of the books yet, but I know it’s coming.

Bookcase #2 finishes off my tall hardcovers and starts my shorter ones. I love that I still have a bit of space on some of these shelves. But with all the books I bought in April, as well as the ones I know are coming out, I bet those spaces will be gone pretty soon.

Bookcase #3 is the end of my shorter hardcovers and the last of the bookcases not hiding in the bookcase nook. For the record, there are 8 bookcases in this tour, and they are all pretty close to full. There would be 10 bookcases in this tour if I decided to include the two cases that are full of Manga, but those are in Damian’s “man cave” room, so if he wants to show them off later then that’s his decision. Granted, the Manga belongs to both of us, because we both buy and read them.

Bookcase #4 starts with my big floppy paperbacks. I love getting epic length stories (like George R.R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson, etc) in these because I find them easier to read, and not breaking the binding). I still need to finish off a few of these series, and I’ll get around to them as soon as I can. And then this set of shelves also starts my trade paperbacks.

Bookcase #5 continues my trade paperbacks, because I actually have quite a few of them. Sorry these pictures don’t more clearly showcase the books on the shelves. I don’t quite have enough room in the nook to get a straight on photo of the bookcases. Oh well.

Bookcase #6 finishes off my trade paperbacks, with the final two shelves being most of the books I’ve picked up at conventions and such from authors. It’s sad for me to admit that most of these books are still unread. I bought all of these books because they sounded interesting and I wanted to support the authors. I know how difficult it is to go to a convention and try to sell a bunch of copies of books. So I really should probably prioritize these books for reading and reviewing. Maybe I’ll choose a month later in this year and form my TBR solely from those bottom two shelves.

Bookcase #7 holds all of my mass market paperbacks. Weirdly, I think it has been a while since I last actually read a mass market copy of a book. It’s been a lot of hardcovers, trade paperbacks, and digital copies lately. But I have a lot of good books on these shelves, as well as a bunch that I’ve just never gotten around to reading.

Finally, Bookcase #8 holds some of my taller special books and Illustrated books, some of my ARCs, some of my fun little oddball books, and my entire Animorphs series.

So yeah, I have a lot of books, and they were all stored in boxes for close to six weeks, so I feel bad for all of them, but they are happy and settled into their new home now. If life doesn’t throw any weird curveballs at us, then we expect to be in this house for many many years to come, which is great because moving all these books is a tedious process. They were so heavy. I already told Damian that if we ever need to move again, we are hiring movers. LOL.
