Wow, we’re already at Wednesday this week, somehow. Where is the time going? Anyway, welcome back to my weekly post where I wrap up everything that I’ve read, watched, listened to, done, etc.
Let’s start off with what I’ve read in the last week. I finished Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy, and I’ll have a full review up at the end of the month, but I absolutely loved this book, and it definitely has hit my favorites of 2019 list. It is a queer gender-swapped King Arthur story set in the future in space. Seriously, it is just as fascinating as it sounds. Then I started reading two different books, and I made one my work book and one my home book. Those books are The Philosopher’s Flight by Tom Miller and Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody & Joanne Rendell. And I loved each book for different reasons, and will certainly have reviews up as soon as I can squeeze them into my blogging schedule.
My current reads are Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and Sherwood by Meagan Spooner. I’ve read some pretty dense (yet awesome) and heavy reads, so the humor of Pratchett and Gaiman should be a welcome one…plus there is that Amazon show coming very soon. Also, I’ve been looking forward to reading this Robin Hood retelling so I have a good feeling about my reads.
Then there’s what I’m hoping to read next, and man there are so many great books sitting on my shelves (or in my digital library for my NOOK/Kindle/Audible apps). I wish I had more free time I could dedicate to my bookish hobbies. So I think I’m going to try for one physical book and one e-galley, and hopefully I’ll be able to keep a nice balance going, because I have quite a few NetGalley reads to dive into in the near future.
As for watches, we started to try and catch up on “Critical Role,” but since episodes are roughly 4 hours long, we’re not quite caught up yet. We also watched a few episodes of “The Good Doctor,” which follows a surgical resident who has autism and savant syndrome. It is pretty darn good so far, though Damian can only watch a couple episodes at a time before he needs to take a break from the medical procedures and such. Oh, we also watched “Assassin’s Creed,” which wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. The action sequences were good, and the concept intrigues me enough to try playing the video game, but I think I can see why so many complained about the adaptation. Damian and I also went to a theatre to watch a performance of “Avenue Q,” a Broadway musical that is an adult Sesame Street. It is utterly hilarious (and a bit offensive at times) but my best friend was in it and I continue to support his artistic endeavors–and he did a wonderful job as well. We also watched “Brave” (again), and “The Secret World of Arietty.” Then we watched “Knights of Badassdom,” and then I finally got Damian to start watching “Game of Thrones,” so we are halfway through season one.
Oh hey, I should probably have a writing/CampNaNoWriMo update here as well. I’m still behind. It’s going to be a little difficult to make up for that week of no writing, but Easter weekend is almost here, so I have an extra day off work, and hopefully I’ll be able to get even more writing time in. Granted, I also do keep getting distracted by books I really want to read, so we will see what happens.
