Wow…I have finally completely caught up with my reviews for this series. Volume 17 comes out in early February. From this point forward I think Damian and I may do joint reviews for future releases of this series, because it is one that the both of us really enjoy.

Summary

My Thoughts
Rating: 4 stars
For this volume, the focus is on Kirishima AKA Red Riot, as well as Tamaki AKA Suneater and Fat Gum. I actually liked that we only had a little Midoriya in this one, not that I don’t like our lovely main character, but all the other characters are equally as fascinating to me, so it’s nice to see them starting to get more attention and depth and backstory.
I really loved seeing the backstory and development of Tamaki and Mirio’s friendship. They both admire each other and strive to be better to pretty much be worthy of the other. And seeing more of Tamaki’s Quirk doesn’t make it any less odd, but I still find it weirdly fascinating. It’s cool to see how he’s developed it so he can take on altered forms of what he has eaten.
From there we turn to backstory on Kirishima, and we get more into his struggles to dive into the action and danger when it could be a life and death fight. It’s frankly a very real struggle, and I can understand him in that. And then you get more into his backstory and see that the struggle to fight and to be courageous has pretty much always been a thing for him.
Oh, and then I found out that he was a former school acquaintance of another one of the class 1-A students. It is interesting to see how certain encounters with others can so change the path someone is on, and I feel that talking to this particular student had that sort of effect on Kirishima, which was really cool.
I hope we get more volumes like this. We have such a large cast of characters now in My Hero Academia, and I’d like to see more from those who often seem to be pushed to the side.
