Purging the TBR #16

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend, and welcome back to another TBR purge post. I’ll be honest: today’s post is a lot of books I still want to read. I only removed 9 books from my to-read list…9 out of 30. It’s practically the exact opposite of yesterday’s post.

Anyway, you know the drill by now. I am going to my Goodreads to-read list and putting the books in the order I added them to the list. Then, because only looking at 5 (or 10 if adventurous) books each time would have taken me far too long to finish the list, I upped that number to the insane high of 30 books. But it is actually working for me. I have actually cut my list in half.

Speaking of, in case anyone is wondering, my Goodreads is under my birth name, not the pen name I use for writing and blogging. If you would like to be my friend on Goodreads, let me know (give me your Goodreads info) and I’ll send you a friend request. I have seen so many people treat authors like crap when they give a “negative” review; they seem to think authors should only ever give other authors 4 or 5 star ratings. To avoid having to do that, especially as I am a self-published author, I simply don’t rate books under my pen name.

Okay, on to the next 30 books of my list.

House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter. I have never read anything by this author before, but it still sounds interesting to me and I’d like to give her/it a try. Keep.

The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Yes, this still sounds interesting, but I’m not feeling in the mood for it now so goodbye.

Between Worlds by Jacqueline E. Smith. This is the sequel to Cemetery Tours from my 14th Purge. I didn’t keep that one (for now), so this one can go as well.

The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke. This one sounds interesting still, but I don’t own it yet, and I heard some stuff about it no longer being printed or something, so I’m leery to try it.

Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry. I admit it, I’m a sucker for these books, so I do plan on reading it.

Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep. Yep, I still plan on reading this one.

Hot Lead, Cold Iron by Ari Marmell. This seems Harry Dresden-esque and I do like my wizards and their detective duties.

Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. I tried to read this a couple years ago and read about a third of it, and it wasn’t holding my interest. While I will possibly give it another try at some point, right now I’m just not feeling like it is time, so goodbye.

Remembrance by Meg Cabot. I adored the Mediator series, and so having one that continues the series after jumping forward several years is intriguing. I definitely need to read it.

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. This is a novel about a girl writing a novel, so it has the story within a story format, which if done well is something I rather enjoy. Plus this was written as part of NaNoWriMo, so I’m definitely interested.

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. I have been recommended this series by several friends whose opinions I trust, so I am absolutely keeping this on my to read list.

At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen. While I like Gruen’s books, and I would like to read more historical fiction, I’m not really feeling like this is the book I want to read right now so pass.

The Eterna Files by Renee Leanna Hieber. Yep, this still sounds like something I need to read.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Do I need to explain why I’m keeping this one? It’s Neil Gaiman. Plus I want to watch the show, so I need to read the book first.

Rogue by Julie Kagawa. Again, I feel like a bad reader when I say that I’ve only read the first book of this series. Seeing as how this is the second book and I do want to read it, this one is staying on the list.

Severed Souls by Terry Goodkind. I need to do a read through of the entire Sword of Truth series before I can get into this spin-off/sequel series, so farewell for now.

Sacrificed to the Dragon by Jessie Donovan. While this still sounds like something I’d probably like, it’s just not even remotely close to high on my priority list, so for now I can say goodbye.

Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews. I enjoy reading this couple’s books, and this is the start of a new series so…keep.

Karen Memory by Elizabeth Bear. Hmm…nah, this one isn’t sounding like something I want to read right now.

The Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey. I really love the Elemental Masters series, though I have not read them in any sort of proper order. This is the first book, and it is based on Beauty and the Beast, which is my favorite. Absolutely keeping this one.

Lady of Magick by Sylvia Izzo Hunter. The first book in this trilogy was a good read, and I want to read them all, so this one is a keeper.

The Crimson Campaign and The Autumn Republic by Brian McClellan. Yes, I do still want to read this, but I need to read the first book first, and I don’t know when exactly that will happen, so I’m going to take these off until I’ve read the first one.

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. Magical library stories are pretty much my favorite thing, so I need this book in my life.

Peace Talks and Mirror, Mirror by Jim Butcher. These are upcoming releases in the Dresden Files series, so like every other Dresden book, I’m keeping this one on my list.

Time’s Edge by Rysa Walker. The first book was fun, and time travel books are cool to read, plus I’m curious what happens next. Keep.

The Holder’s Dominion by Genese Davis. This is a book that I picked up at Chicago Comic-Con while meeting the author. I still need to read this.

A Book of Spirits and Thieves by Morgan Rhodes. This is the prequel spin-off series to the Falling Kingdoms series, so this is a must read for me.

Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch. I liked the first book in this trilogy, plus the covers are really cool. So I’m keeping this one as well.

Okay, so this list still clearly has a lot of books I want to read. I just hope I can find the time to read all these books I’d still like to dive into. Coming up this week I have some tags and reviews, plus Graphic Novel recommendations.

But what I really need to be doing this week is some serious NaNoWriMo writing. This is legitimately the worst I’ve ever done with my word count, but I’m still optimistic that I can catch up.
