WIP Wednesday – April 5

Hey all, Sam and David here.

Mom will be here tomorrow. It means that between today and tomorrow before she arrives, I need to get my blog posts for the weekend written up. I’d rather not have to worry about needing to write them while my mom is around. I don’t get to see her a lot since we live over eight hours apart now, so I’d rather focus on being with my family. That’s the nice thing about running a blog though…with enough dedication and focus, I actually can write and schedule posts ahead of time.

Next week’s WIP Wednesday should be a pretty big one. We have some fun plans for while Mom is here, and I’m very excited about it.

Anyway, welcome back to our weekly update post, where we talk about everything we’ve been reading, watching, playing, and doing over the past week. Let’s not waste any more time with this intro, and go ahead and get started.

Sam

First, I just want to say Happy International Asexuality Day! I know I don’t talk about this aspect of my life much. In fact, I only came out online when I posted my review of Loveless by Alice Oseman. But considering everything going on in the US, I feel like it is important to acknowledge that this is who I am. I’m still working on broadening my knowledge and understanding of things. Because I didn’t even really hear the term Asexual for a very long time, and I feel like there isn’t a whole lot of books and such out there. I’ve found a few and reading them has made some things start to click, like I’m understanding myself in a whole new way.

All right, let’s get into my wrap up for the week.

Reading: The Writer’s Guide to Beginnings: How to Craft Story Openings That Sell by Paula Munier, Necromance Vol 2 by Yuuki Doumoto, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross, Queen Bee by Amalie Howard

Not an amazing reading week, but still a pretty darn good one. The final three chapters of the writing book on beginnings will be covered in this month’s Weekend Writer posts and then I’ll be moving on to the next one. My manga reviews continue with me reading more of a fantasy romance series that is fairly interesting. And then I finished off two new releases that I received early through NetGalley. Those reviews are coming later this week, so I’m looking forward to that.

I’m doing okay with reading and reviewing my NetGalley approved books, working on improving my review ratio…but I also keep getting approved for more books, so it makes it so the percentage doesn’t change too much.

Watching: “Bones” Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 (in progress), “Fruits Basket” Season 1 and Season 2 (in progress), “Breakout Kings” Season 1 (in progress), “Agents of SHIELD” Season 4 (in progress), “Ghost Whisperer” Season 1 (in progress), and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (again)

My watching mood has bounced around quite a bit this week. I don’t know. But I know it won’t take me too long to finish up “Fruits Basket” and “Breakout Kings” because neither is a particularly long series. The others are a bit longer, so it should take a little bit of time to finish those off.

Writing: It’s Camp NaNoWriMo, which means that I’m trying to write every day. My goal for the month is 25,000 words written on Tale of Blood and Mourning, which averages out to 833 words per day. Currently I am at 7,968 words, which puts me almost five days ahead on word count. I’m only sitting down for two 20 minute writing sessions each day, but it’s turning out to be pretty effective for me. Plus I’ve been setting up monster hunt battles and quests on 4thewords and the gaming aspect of the site is pretty awesome at keeping me motivated.

But I’m also doing some work on Harbingers of Death (working title for the previously mentioned untitled project) and seeing what I can accomplish on that. No set word count goal for the month, since my main focus is my Camp NaNo project, and so I’m not going to say how much I’ve written, but it’s a decent start, which is pretty fun.

In addition to that, I’m also working on reading through and revising my Project Death books. Of course, my main focus is for Camp NaNoWriMo, so I’m not moving all that quickly through the printed out manuscript, but progress is progress.

Other: I’ve played a little bit of “Stardew Valley,” and I played some “Tiny Tina’s Wonderland” with a friend. I just haven’t been in as big of a gaming mood lately, and that’s fine. I’m happy that I’m currently in a reading and writing mood, and again, writing on 4thewords is almost like playing a game, so I guess that sorta counts as gaming, right? It’s pretty great overall.

David

Watching: My animes continue to be the same i have been watching except I’ve taken up Sword Art Online again to pass the time as I wait for new episodes of the other series to become available.

Jojo’s continues to be my current favorite to continue right now. I am still in the middle of Stardust Crusaders and old Joseph and Iggy are my favorite characters.

Gaming: Taken it upon myself to get the Premium PlayStation Plus so that I can play a few older games that i haven’t had luck getting to otherwise.

Tried out a short story like game called 11-11 Memories Retold. A tale of two men during WWI. Kurt an engineer who heads to the front lines in search of his son Max and Harry a photographer who was recruited by Major Barrett to photograph the war. You can choose who play as first in each chapter until thing come to a climax on Armistice Day.

Printing: The goblin slayer cosplay it nearly complete. So far I have not wasted too much material getting it ready. I’m hoping to get some clothe and clothes to finish up the final touches soon.

I was finally able to get one of the resin printers up and have been doing test print with large scale figures. I’m testing a beige color to see how it does for a base skin tone.

I’m super excited to show some of those off but the test prints have been “NSFW” so I won’t be posting those without edits.

I’m hoping to get to painting and printing some of the miniatures and terrain I have in mind for our DND games. With at least one resin printer going right now I’ll be able to start on that path.
