Hey all, Dani here.
It feels like not much was accomplished in the last week. Was it because I had the knowledge that the entire schedule of my life was going to be flipped upside down again? Possibly. Is it because we are a week away from the election? Again, possibly. Stress has a way of really affecting things. Is it because I’m quite tired right now and just feel like I don’t have the time to accomplish anything so my to-do list just seems to be getting bigger and bigger? Likely. Could it also be that deep in my soul I’m still coming to grips with the fact that I was supposed to be married now but we had to postpone until next year in the hopes that we can actually have our friends and family present without worrying as much about this pandemic? Absolutely.
Several times since we got back from the cabin getaway that was supposed to be our honeymoon, I have found myself breaking down as it hits me again that my plans to marry my best friend were shattered by a pandemic that could have been handled so much better if people would have actually followed mask protocols and social distancing. Instead it just keeps getting worse and worse. People around me are upset about delays in movies, sports, concerts, and other things like that, acting as if that is a major detraction from their life. Damian and I set our wedding date in March 2019; we had been planning and looking forward to getting married October 10th, 2020, and…now nothing. It just really really sucks. And I’m sorry to keep bringing it up and to not be a more positive force all of the time but…I’m tired…and sad…and I feel like ignoring that isn’t helping right now.
I have so much content I want to be writing up for this blog; I miss all of my regular posting. I also have a novel that I really want to finish writing, so I’m hoping NaNoWriMo in November will help me achieve that, though I’m also very nervous because of the not having a lot of time thing.
Anyway, I suppose it is time to wrap up everything that I’ve played, watched, and read in the past week. It feels like there’s not much to talk about here, so let’s just go ahead and jump into it.
Video Games: Shocker…once again, I really have no update when it comes to video games. I own all of these games and I would love to play them, but any time I think about picking one up for longer than a couple minutes I’m also reminded of everything else I need to be doing as well and then I end up getting next to nothing accomplished. Better luck next week, I guess.
Watches: Finished Season 3 of “Supernatural” and started Season 4, watched “Matrix Revolutions”, and watched the latest episode of “Critical Role.” I guess this isn’t a bad amount of watches. Damian and I get like three hours every evening to see each other in between him getting home from work and me leaving for work while he goes to bed.
Read: The World of Critical Role by Liz Marsham and the cast of Critical Role, The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo. I finished the “Critical Role” non-fiction during Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon and also managed to get through all of the new Grishaverse supplemental book, which is a pretty cool addition to the world. I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t read more during the readathon, but I lost a lot of time while trying to flip my sleep schedule so I could work the night shift and sleep during the day. And then I wanted to have Kingdom of the Wicked done in time for a release day review…which I succeeded on for the reading part, but not for the review. I really need to get that written and posted.
I am still in the middle of reading a bunch of books, which will make me feel quite accomplished when I finish them all, but for right now it is making me feel a bit like a failure. I know this is a stupid way to feel, and that I’ve read like 230 books this year, which is quite an accomplishment, but I can’t get the facts to sync up with the feelings on that. I have actually only read a couple hundred pages from these books collectively over the last week. Oh, and yes, I’m aware that The World of Critical Role was just mentioned in my finished reads from the past week–I’m listening to the audiobook now. Yes, right after finishing the e-book read. The Way of Kings is a very long book and I’ve read it before, so I find myself setting it down because I feel like I should be focusing more on new reads, but I do really want to get it finished. And with Hush, The Archive of the Forgotten, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn, I just haven’t had as much time to dedicate to reading, nor have I felt that burning desire to devour all the books.
So honestly, I wonder if it is even right to put an idea of my next reads up here. I don’t know that I’ll finish these book’s before the week/month ends. But I guess one of the points of this post is to talk about what I’ve finished reading, what I’m currently reading, and what I’m hoping to read next so…
I’m still keeping a couple of the fantasy books from last week’s tentative TBR on my radar, but as we get nearer to November, I think I want to shift my focus to middle grade reads. I should read them fairly quickly, and hopefully that means I can still accomplish a good amount of reading while also participating in NaNoWriMo.
So, I guess that’s all for today. Thank you all so much for sticking with me and this book blog in the recent months. I know that it has been a pretty big change, going from basically 10 posts a week to just roughly 10 posts a month, but still having this bookish outlet has been one of the big parts of keeping me afloat in the chaos of 2020. Seriously what has kept me going this year is Damian, D&D, and books.
What is keeping you afloat in 2020? Are there any books or shows or movies or tabletop/video games that have helped you this year? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
