JanJamJar Readathon

Today I want to talk about a readathon I decided to create on a whim. For the month of January, I have been/am participating in the JanJamJar, hosted by the always fantastic Kathy at Books and Munches. And it has been a blast so far. I have read quite a few books and I’m feeling pretty darn productive…though, I’ll be honest and say that I have picked up a couple books that weren’t in my TBR mug. Oops, it happens.

Anyway, I’m planning on hosting a 24 Hour Readathon, and I’ve picked my TBR from my jar already.

So basically, what ended up happening is that my fiance, aka Damian Trypp on this blog, has taken a vacation day for January 30th, which is the day after the newest Kingdom Hearts video game is released. Since I have more vacation days (because I’ve been at the company longer) and because I don’t like going to work without him, I decided to take the day off as well.

But I totally know that he is going to ignore me all day, lost in his favorite video game series. And I’m fine with that, because I’ve been known to lose myself in books on occasion. What that means is that I have a perfect time for a reading day.

Then, knowing that I have to go to work on January 31st, I have to get ready for bed/be in bed by 8:30pm. That ended up helping me solidify the start and end dates and times.

So this 24 Hour Readathon will take place from 8:00pm EST on January 29th until 8:00pm EST on January 30th.

For anyone participating in Jan Jam Jar, this could be a great way to end your month finishing up some more of your TBR jar reads. For anyone else, hey, what a great way to finish up your first month of reading in 2019.

Oh, and I guess I should talk about my TBR. It might be a tad ambitious, but I don’t know, it might also be just right.

First up, I have Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend. I have been wanting to read this book for over a year now, I keep hearing wonderful things about it, and the sequel is out (I’ve already bought it). Plus, since it’s middle grade, I’m thinking I can read it fairly quickly.

Next is The Monster of Selkirk Book II: The Heart of the Forest by C.E. Clayton. I picked up this series because of Kathy raving about how amazing it was, and I have not been disappointed. Oh, and the fifth book of the series was just released, so I want to try and catch up with these books.

After that I have included The Adventurers Guild: Twilight of the Elves by Zack Loran Clark and Nick Eliopulos. I flew through the first book and had such a great time reading it. I really felt like it was a great middle grade fantasy novel with some serious D&D vibes to it. So I want to read the next one ASAP.

Oh, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. This book has been on my TBR for too long. And both it and Muse of Nightmares are just sitting on my bookshelves, waiting to be read. I have heard such wonderful things about these books, but I was kind of meh about my last experience with Laini Taylor. But the premise of this story just sounds too interesting. And I may have skimmed the first chapter already, and feel that the writing has definitely improved from previous works. So I’m finally ready to give this a try.

Finally, there is A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos. It sounds like a great and interesting fantasy read…and I was just approved for the sequel on NetGalley, so I feel like I need to get to this one very soon. I’d like to keep up on my NetGalley reads and reviews this year.

Whew, that is going to be a pretty fantastic day of reading if I can manage most or all of it.
