#JolabokaflodReadathon 2025

Hey all, Sam here.

If I was a more prepared individual then this post would have been up a few days ago. But hey, I should have known that the end of the year brings all kinds of added stress, and that throws things completely out of whack for me.

Anyway, I’m thankfully off work on Christmas Eve, and that means celebrating one of my favorite holidays: Jolabokaflod! And it means I will be participating in a readathon I created, so let’s talk about that a little bit.

Back in 2019 I created a last minute readathon, and in 2020 I was joined by a couple different people. In 2021 I was in a major slump and didn’t do anything, and in 2022 and 2023 I brought this event back again. Sadly, due to my work schedule, I was unable to properly host or participate in 2024. Well, we’re nearing that time again, so I guess I should talk about this little event I’ve come up with.

So, I love the idea of the Christmas Book Flood: spending my Christmas Eve cuddled up on the couch, drinking hot cocoa, and reading books. Then I thought that maybe other people might want to join me, so #JolabokaflodReadathon was born.

When? 6pm on December 24th through 6am on December 25th to coincide with the Christmas Eve exchange and reading evening.

Do you have to read the whole time? No, of course not. Even just sitting down to read for an hour or so is perfectly fine. But if you want to stay up all night reading then that’s great too.

If you post about this on social media, use the hashtag #JolabokaflodReadathon so I can follow along.

This isn’t a readathon that’s particularly strict on rules. So read some books, drink some nice hot beverages, and just enjoy a relaxing time cuddled up with yourself, your pets, your friends, or your family.

So….what am I hoping to read for #JolabokaflodReadathon? I’m not putting a super long list of options on here…but I could pick up any of the ten books on my post from earlier this month. At the top of that list are probably these books:

The Road of Bones by Demi Winters, Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger, This Will Be Fun by E.B. Asher

On top of that, I’ve selected a few books that feel a bit winter-y to me. Because, I don’t know, I feel like reading books that feel a little bit the chilly lonely season we find ourselves in currently.

Obviously, this is the perfect time of year to read (or watch) Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather, so whether or not I read this for Jolabokaflod, I will be reading this one by the end of the year.

The rest of these are books I either have on my shelf, or they are books that I was granted access to via NetGalley and still haven’t read. So I could pick up Unseen by Christy Healy, A Fate So Cold by Amanda Foody and C.L. Herman, and The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden.

All right, well that is all from me for today. Thank you so much for stopping by, and I’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
