Hey all, Sam and David back again today.
It has been another fulfilling week for us here at Free State of Geek. While we sometimes feel like we don’t have all that productive of a week, that’s just because to us it does seem a little slow…but in reality we’re still doing a lot of stuff.
Anyway, welcome back to WIP Wednesday, our regular series here on the blog where we talk about everything we’ve been doing over the past week. This includes reading, writing, watching, crafting, planning, doing, and whatever. These posts are a handy way to keep track of everything going on in our lives, because sometimes they’re so chaotic that it’s easy to forget things or to have things blur together.
All right…let’s go ahead and talk about everything we’ve been up to in the past week.
Sam

Reading: Bonesmith by Nicki Pau Preto, Lore Olympus Vol 4 by Rachel Smythe, Goblin Mode: How to Get Cozy, Embrace Imperfection, and Thrive in the Muck by McKayla Coyle, The Valkyrie’s Shadow by Tiana Warner, The First Binding by R.R. Virdi

As for current reads, I’m working my way through Empire of Exiles because Erin M Evans will be at Gen Con and I’m attending her book signing, and then I’m reading City of Dusk by Tara Sim because I was approved for The Midnight Kingdom on NetGalley. And then both Ravensong by T.J. Klune and Guardians of Dawn: Zhara by S. Jae-Jones are also NetGalley reads that I’m hoping to review in the next week or two.
Watching: So here’s the thing….I’m still watching things, but I’m going to stop talking about what I’m watching until the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike is over. I know I don’t technically qualify as an influencer or anything, and very few people even pay attention to this blog and what I have to say…but I’m not going to talk about what I’m watching and have that be seen as promoting things.
I AM still watching things, because neither the WGA or SAG-AFTRA have called for us to stop watching and loving shows and movies; in fact, they’re calling for us to keep watching things, hoping that it shows that there is value to the work they do.
For now, I’ll be keeping a list of what I’ve been watching and such, and once the strike has ended and an agreement has been made, I’ll be happy to talk about my media consumption.
Writing: I DID some writing AND some editing this past week! Not a lot, compared to what I need to be doing, but I did some work, so that feels like a victory. I’ve been spending so much of my non-work time reading and then blogging, I really need to figure out a better balance so that I can have the time to focus on my book-writing a bit more.
Other: Oh, David’s step-brother came to visit for a couple days, and we showed him around a bit, went to a few local fun places, like putt-putt and bowling, and we went to the movies, so that was a good time. Honestly I think that’s about it for the week.
David
So not much going on on my front this week guys but I do have a couple of big projects going on right now at least.
Printing: You’ve probably seen on our instagram but one of the big projects I am working on right now is a full size Mjolnir set with cut Infinity Stones on the faces of the hammer and the pommel of the handle.

As you can see by my pictures above I have also been doing some work on the green goblin mask and a few resin figures as well. I just had to print this little fairy cause she is just hanging out in a martini glass.
The goblin mask just needs a fresh coat of primer and paint and the eyes and mouth will be covered. After that I will need to figure out how I will make it stay on someone’s head. Maybe some foam on the inside?
Honestly quite a bit of my printing had been figures lately and starting some cosplay projects in the inbetween time of work and painting and trying to catch up on shows.
Watching: Speaking of shows I have managed to get to episode 670 or so of One Piece finally. It been fun watching the series from the beginning as well in anticipation of the live action release.
Family Visit: So I know Sam already said it but my brother Shawn finally got the chance to come visit, which is really nice. Just yesterday we went to the Boba Bubbles shop, Putt Around mini golf and ice cream, we even went and watched the river boats go under the bridge for a bit.
We played a bit of Diablo 4. I might have convinced him to get it for himself so we can play together once he gets home. I made us a good breakfast scramble with cheesy eggs, ham, and bacon. I think we might try out the arcade nearby and play some more Diablo later.
Well, that is all from us for today. Feel free to let us know what you’ve been up to, because we’d love to know. Thank you so much for stopping by, and we’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
