Hey all, Sam here.
Welcome back to another new installment for Manga Monday, the series on the blog where I review a somewhat-recently read volume of manga each week. Today’s post features the final review from the volumes I read during Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon back in April. Beginning next week I’ll be doing a couple months straight of manga reviews for One Piece.
I’m glad to still have plenty of manga to talk about in the coming months, but I also know that some of these series I have started, I need to get the next volumes so I can continue with them. Thankfully, until I do another manga haul, I do still have some backlog to read through as well, which is great.
And in one more week David and I will be getting ready to head out to Gen Con, and we’re massively excited about that. So I’m not only working on this week’s blog posts, but also trying to get ahead of the game and work on next week’s posts as well. We’ve been doing really great with posting every day and I’d love to keep up with that.
All right, let’s get started.

A powerful mage finds himself teaching a class of misfits and oddballs in this lighthearted fantasy!
Jade was one of the strongest mages in the world, boasting the coveted post of Court Wizard thanks to his standout abilities. Unfortunately, mysterious events got him fired from that gig, and now he’s the newest teacher at a magic school way out in the boonies. Worse yet, he’s in charge of a class of losers and misfits who’ve earned the scorn of the academy’s elite. Channeling both his skill as a royal magician and his earnest desire to help his students achieve their dreams, can Jade turn this class of rejects into a force to be reckoned with?
My Thoughts
Rating: 4 stars
I’ll be honest…this series is giving me Assassination Classroom vibes, but set in a fantasy world, instead of basically being in our modern world. But Jade being placed as the teacher at a magic school and being given the so-called losers and misfits of the school…it’s compelling.
We’ve only just scratched the surface of these characters, and there are so many to get to know. The students in Jade’s class are quirky and intriguing, and they have such fun and different dreams. I also love Jade’s desire to help the students reach their goals, and seeing what he’ll do to help them.
Because Jade is a pretty powerful mage, even if he doesn’t go around boasting about his greatness. It’s clear to us that he is perhaps vastly overqualified for this position, but it definitely suits his change of lifestyle.
And there was a lot packed into this first volume, which is okay as a way to get readers interested and hooked, but hopefully the characters and plot and growth and depth will come in future volumes.
It’s definitely not the worst first volume I’ve read, and I’m curious to see more of the magic and to learn more about the world and the school and the characters…so we’ll se what happens.
Well, that is all from me for today. Thank you so much for stopping by, and I’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
